SUNSET FOR ROWELL?
The Gold Coast Suns remain unsure about the way forward for Matthew Rowell (AF $527k, SC $470k – MID) after scans revealed he dislocated his shoulder in Saturday’s clash with Geelong.
Suns Football GM Jon Haines said: “We had some scans taken yesterday and those scans confirmed it’s a dislocation. What we’ll do now is take a little bit of time to assess those options, assess the views and have a good chat.”
Speaking on AFL360 later on Monday night, Suns coach Stuart Dew added: “We’re gathering information & taking a breath… It’s important we take our time… we want to make sure we look after him & make sure he has a long career.
“The conservative (option) & probably most sensible (is surgery), given his age & the position he plays. It’s important we do what’s best for Matt. We see him as a long-term player for our footy club.”
TIGER TROUBLE
Richmond have revealed the extent of their issues, with Tom Lynch (AF $456k SC $402k FWD) unlikely to be available for their Round Six clash with Sydney due to a fractured hand.
Trent Cotchin (hamstring), Toby Nankervis and Dion Prestia (both syndesmosis) have already been ruled out.
Tigers coach Damien Hardwick told AFL360: “Those four will obviously miss. Tom is probably incredibly doubtful (for Round Six).”
A Richmond statement said: “Lynch will have minor surgery on a fractured hand and will travel to the Gold Coast this evening to join the Tigers in the Gold Coast hub. The Club will assess Lynch’s availability for selection during the week.
“Nankervis and Prestia’s injuries are both medium term & the Club will have more information on their recovery timelines following their surgeries. Trent Cotchin has a minor hamstring strain & will miss this weekend’s match.”
Bachar Houli (AF $779k SC $528k DEF) and Shane Edwards (AF $516k SC $428k DEF) have also been ruled out as they’ve opted to remain in Melbourne for personal reasons.
FYFE ALIVE
Nat Fyfe (AF $755k SC $670k MID) could return from his hamstring injury as soon as Round Six according to Freo coach Justin Longmuir.
Longmuir told SEN this morning: “He’s a good chance to play (in Round Six). We expect him to play at this stage.”
OTHERS
Dayne Zorko (AF $687k SC $501k MID) has declared himself fit to play on Thursday against Geelong after a calf injury.
Eagles skipper Luke Shuey (AF $671k SC $507k MID) will miss one-two games with a hamstring injury, according to coach Adam Simpson.
TOMORROW
John Longmire, Chris Scott and Leon Cameron will front the press, along with Port assistant Jarrad Schofield.
