Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera will miss another 3 games with a calf injury after being a late withdrawal for St Kilda’s clash with Gold Coast.
Saints coach Ross Lyon had initially said the issue was only a corked calf, but intimated that they’d need to further assess the problem.
St Kilda GM of Football Lenny Hayes said: “We gave Nas every opportunity to get up for Saturday night, but ultimately decided to err on the side of caution. Despite presenting with minimal pain, results from his latest scan have confirmed a minor strain.”
Hayes didn’t put a timeframe on Wanganeen-Milera but he was listed as “3 weeks” in their injury report list.
The Saints remain hopeful on defender Cal Wilkie’s availability for next round after he copped a knee to the back against the Suns.
Hayes said: “Cal will be given every chance to play this week. He had a scan when we arrived home and has been cleared of any internal damage.
“Ultimately, he’ll need to get through main training on Friday to be ticked off to face the Tigers.”
The Bulldogs have confirmed Tim English has entered concussion protocols although didn’t comment on any longer term timeline on his return given his history.
“Tim received some head-high contact in the dying minutes of the game against Port Adelaide,” Bulldogs Head of Sports Medicine Chris Bell said. “He was assessed on the bench and was immediately removed from the game for further assessment.
“Clinical tests confirmed that Tim suffered an episode of concussion. Tim has entered the Club’s concussion management protocol, and he will work closely with our doctors to determine his return to play plan.”
Richmond provided positive news on Sam Grlj availability after missing last game. Tigers High Performance Manager Ben Serpell said: “He’s been an outstanding performer for us in the first eight rounds.
“Being a first-year player, we had an opportunity to rest him, so we took that, and we expect him out there this week and a bit fresher and hopefully ready to perform.”
Essendon rookie Dyson Sharp will miss 4-6 weeks with a dislocated shoulder. The Dons update said: “Sharp dislocated his shoulder during the third quarter of Saturday’s match against the GIANTS. Scans conducted this week confirmed surgical intervention will not be required at this point in time.
“Rather, Sharp will complete a four-to-six-week strengthening program before being available for selection after the mid-season bye.”
Melbourne’s Caleb Windsor will need to pass a fitness test on a toe injury to play this weekend. Demons AFL High Performance Manager Selwyn Griffith said: “Caleb sustained a toe injury during the game.
“He was able to continue to play for a brief period but with the short turn around, the best decision was to remove him from the game. He‘ll be assessed this week to determine his availability.”
Jye Caldwell will face a test to prove his fitness to take on Fremantle in Round 10 following an ankle injury sustained in Round 8.
Sydney has confirmed Matt Roberts will miss 2-4 weeks with groin soreness. The Swans say he’ll undergo a short period of rehab.
Port confirmed youngster Josh Lai has entered concussion protocols after picking up a knock late against the Western Bulldogs.
Darcy Cameron will need to be assessed before being cleared to play for the Pies against Sydney on Friday night.
Collingwood’s Head of High Performance Jarrod Wade said: Darcy Cameron had a direct impact knock to his ankle on Saturday’s game against Geelong. This is the same ankle that he sustained a low-grade injury to in Round 9 against Hawthorn. His availability will be determined following tomorrow’s main training.”
The Pies also confirmed Pat Lipinski has entered concussion protocols.
Matt Rowell is in the mix to return in Round 10. The Suns update said: “Rowell is aiming to train fully this week, whilst in Darwin, in an effort to make himself available selection for the Round 10 match against Port Adelaide.”
GWS revealed midfielder Harry Rowston “will miss a couple of weeks of footy following an infection in his knee”.
Brisbane are set to welcome back midfielder Jarryd Berry after missing his past 3 games with a calf injury.
Hawthorn’s Will Day is closing in on a return from a long-term shoulder injury. Hawks High Performance Manager Peter Burge said: “He’s been fully training and getting more sessions under his belt. He’s playing football next week, which we’re all looking forward to, but that would be through the VFL.”
