Tuesday’s injury reports are starting to trickle out with key updates across the board to help guide your Round 16 trade targets and trade-outs.
GWS has confirmed Lachie Whitfield has entered concussion protocols following a collision in the Sunday’s win over Gold Coast.
The GWS update said: “Whitfield was sent to the rooms late in the first quarter following the collision and was later subbed out of the game after failing his HIA assessment. The club will continue to monitor his progress over the coming days.”
The Giants have the bye this round, meaning he won’t miss a game this weekend.
GWS also noted Kieren Briggs is “expected to be available” after their bye which may impact Nicholas Madden. Stephen Coniglio (glute) is also on track to return ollowing the bye.
St Kilda confirmed Mattaes Phillipou will miss an additional 3-4 weeks due to another plantaris setback.
The Saints update said: “The young gun will not make the trip to Perth with the team this week and is expected to spend the next three to four weeks on the sideline as he recovers from a re-aggravation of his plantaris.”
Jayden Short (calf) will miss again for Richmond, while Sam Lalor (hamstring) is a test. On Short, Richmond High Performance Manager Ben Serpell said: “Shorty is likely to miss another week.
“As I said last week, he was a test, but he probably didn’t perform as well as we would have liked him to, not just from an injury perspective but from a performance perspective. We will give him another week here and test him leading into our Geelong week game in a couple of weeks.”
The Tigers have now confirmed a timeline for Campbell Gray (knee), listing him as 2-4 weeks off. Kane McAuliffe (quad) is also listed as 3-4 weeks.
On McAuliffe, Serpell said: “Sadly for Kane, he sustained a quad injury in training last week, and he was pulled from the game towards the end of the week. We are expecting him to miss around three to four weeks now on that quad strain.”
Essendon could welcome back a host of players after their bye, including popular early-season picks Zach Reid and Saad El-Hawli following hamstring injuries.
The Dons update said: “Expected to be available for selection after recovering from their respective hamstring injuries is the trio of Jordan Ridley, Zach Reid and Saad El-Hawli.
“Also on track to return are Kyle Langford and Mason Redman, who have been recovering well from quad and calf injuries respectively.”
Collingwood ruled out Beau McCreery for 3-4 weeks with a hamstring injury but also announced young gun Charlie West will subsequently debut.
Luke Pedlar is a test with a corked quad according to Adelaide. “Luke Pedlar got a knee to the bottom of his quad, top of his knee, in the Hawthorn game,” Adelaide High Performance Manager Darren Burgess said.
“It’s pulled up a little bit sore, he ran well today and we’re hoping he’ll be able to train on Thursday and play this weekend, but he’ll be a test at this point.”
Hawthorn have listed James Worpel (quad cork), Mitch Lewis (knee) and James Sicily (hip/abdominal) as tests for their upcoming game.
On Sicily, Hawthorn High Performance Manager Peter Burge said: “Progressing really well, he’s made some significant progress over the last fortnight and we’ve been able to build his training and conditioning to the level now where he’s going to resume some football drills on Thursday and then we’ll make an assessment for the weekend.”
The Western Bulldogs confirmed midfielder Adam Treloar will miss an “extended period” following his calf injury. Port revealed Ollie Wines (knee) will be unavailable again this round.
Brisbane revealed potential returnee Tom Doedee has entered concussion protocols, while Keidean Coleman (quad) is now only 1-2 weeks off.
Carlton provided an update on Hudson O’Keeffe (hamstring) with a return slated for Round 18-19, while Sam Walsh (foot) is listed as Round 19-20.
