We’ll go game-by-game across the AAMI Community Series to offer all the latest insights from coaches into who’s in form, who’s got a good role and the latest injury updates.
Gold Coast vs Sydney
Gold Coast assistant coach Shaun Grigg
On Touk Miller and Sam Flanders:
“They both trained strongly this morning. If this was a normal game, then Touk probably plays. He’ll be fine.
“Flanders once again got through what he needed to today. He’ll have a couple more sessions he needs to get through. We’ll keep an open mind but pretty hopeful.”
On injuries to Mac Andrew, Charlie Ballard, David Swallow and Lachie Weller:
“Mac is pretty positive. He passed the concussion test. News from the docs is it’s a chest injury. We’ll get the scans with him. Ballard came off with an ankle. We probably took the easy road with him.
“Dave Swallow had a bit of a knee concern, possible PCL but we’ll get the scans. Lachie Weller just came off with a bit of soreness.”
On Lachie Weller’s game prior to the soreness:
“He’s a silky player. We saw his skills with his kicking inside 50. He hit the scoreboard too. For Lachie to get through the majority of the game and all of the pre-season has been positive. Great to have Lach out there running through the middle and wing.
On recruits Daniel Rioli and John Noble:
“It was great to get Daniel his first game. To get through the minutes, he’ll be positive. It’s going to be exciting for us with those guys are going to bring with their leadership, their run and dash off half-back and ball use.”
Sydney assistant coach Jarrad McVeigh
On Errol Gulden’s ankle injury:
“Obviously when a player comes off like that concerns are heightened. He’ll get scans. We’ll get those reports in the next 24 hours. Didn’t look good but got to wait on those results.”
On the absent Isaac Heeney, Chad Warner, Dane Rampe or Lewis Melican:
“We wanted to make sure our players at that top echelon are primed and ready to go (for Opening Round). It was no risk with some of those players.”
On Brodie Grundy’s availability:
“Clearly Brodie will hopefully be right for next week… hopefully next week we’ll have more details on Brodie and he’ll be right to go.”
