The Sydney Sixers and Melbourne Renegades’ teams for Monday’s game have been confirmed with Kurtis Patterson the big absentee, while there was a big update on Jacob Bethell’s arrival.
Jackson Bird and Ben Manenti were also absent for the Sixers along with Akeal Hosein and Steve Smith on national duty.
Harry Dixon, Marcus Harris, Xavier Crone, Jacob Bethell and Nathan Lyon are also absent, the latter 2 due to national duty.
Sixers: Henriques (c), Abbott, Chohan, Davies, Dwarshuis, Edwards, Hughes, Kerr, Murphy, Perry, Philippe, Shaw, Silk, Vince
Renegades: Sutherland (c), Brown, Evans, F-McGurk, Harvey, Khan, O’Neill, Richardson, Rogers, Sandhu, Seifert, Stow, Wells, Zampa
The ‘Gades also provided a curious update on Jacob Bethell’s availability, potentially seeing him arrive in time to play the second game of their Round 1, impacting Hassan Khan’s availability due to the three-player overseas quota.
The update said: “Jacob Bethell will be unavailable for this match due to his international commitments with England. He’s scheduled to join the squad ahead of the Renegades’ home opener in Geelong.”
England’s ongoing Test match with New Zealand is scheduled to end on Wednesday but the trajectory of the game suggests an earlier finish.
DOGGETT AVAILABILITY UPDATE
The Adelaide Strikers are still hopeful Brendan Doggett will be available for Tuesday’s opener against the Sydney Thunder in Canberra despite staying with the Test squad.
It was reported on Saturday that Sydney Sixers quick Sean Abbott won’t return to the Test squad in Brisbane after being in Sydney for the birth of his child in midweek.
That means he’ll be available to play for the Sixers against the Melbourne Renegades on Monday night at the SCG.
But it was also clarified that Doggett, along with Josh Inglis and Scott Boland will remain with the Test squad for now. The latter have already been ruled out of Sunday’s Scorchers-Stars game, while Beau Webster was released.
Doggett’s Strikers, however, do not play until Tuesday night and Honeyball understands a decision on his release will likely be made on Monday. If he’s released, he will fly from Brisbane to Canberra for the game.

BUCKINGHAM 3FA, KONSTAS OPENS
The Adelaide Strikers ‘Academy’ played the Sydney Thunder in a practice game on Friday, fielding an under-strength side captained by Alex Ross. Notably, Jordan Buckingham took 3 wickets and a catch.
The Thunder batting and bowling scorecard was available (see below) with Sam Konstas (29 off 24) opening with Matthew Gilkes, followed by Cam Bancroft in an indication of their likely top 3, with David Warner to come in to replace Gilkes.
NZ quick Lockie Ferguson eased any injury concerns with 4 overs, taking 2-32, opening the bowling with Wes Agar (1-39) with Nathan McAndrew not in action. Will Salzmann also bowled 2 overs.

TURNER GOOD TO GO
Scorchers captain Ashton Turner has declared himself good to go after a rib concern in the lead-up to BBL|14. Turner was named in the Scorchers’ 14-man squad on Saturday and spoke to media shortly after too.
He said: “It was about jumping through a few hoops and I was able to do that well. I feel as prepared as anyone… Preparation has been fine. I got through training fine and I’m looking forward to being able to contribute.”
MADDO’S BBL|14 OVER
Nic Maddinson appears set to miss the whole of BBL|14, with the Sydney Thunder signing 24-year-old top-order batsman Blake Nikitaras as his replacement.
The Thunder update said: “Maddinson has been ruled out of the tournament due to injury. Maddinson sustained a significant finger injury and will undergo surgery, likely ruling him out for the entire tournament.”
