Josh Brown was the star with 85 from 48 balls as the Melbourne Renegades downed the Melbourne Stars in Thursday’s practice game at CitiPower Centre.
Brown’s knock was a highlight, blasting 12 fours and three sixes along the way, while Tim Seifert offered a glimpse of his quality with 30 from 15 batting first drop.
The Gades’ batting line-up offered some insights into their plans with Jake Fraser-McGurk opening, while Mackenzie Harvey came in at 4, followed by Laurie Evans. Harvey impressed with 44 from 28, meaning he could get the nod ahead of Jonathon Wells who didn’t bat.
Joel Paris and Tom Curran opened the bowling for the Stars. Left-armer Paris took 2-24 from 3 overs and was the best of their bowlers.
Mark Steketee only bowled one over and went 1-15, while Hamish McKenzie took 1-36 from 4 overs. Peter Siddle was good with 1-28 from 3. Marcus Stoinis did not bowl.

There were few highlights with the bat for the Stars, but their order was notable with Joe Clarke (12 from 15) and Tom Rogers (12 from 10) opening, followed by Sam Harper (13 from 14).
McKenzie was impressive down the order, making 42 from 27.
‘Gades spinner Callum Stow, who is set to be unveiled as Nathan Lyon’s replacement, took 3-17 while Hassan Khan managed 2-18.
Will Sutherland bowled 2 overs and finished with 0-10, in a sign he’ll be right to bowl Round 1.
