The Melbourne Renegades have signed Victorian pair Marcus Harris and Xavier Crone ahead of BBL|14, rounding out the Club’s 18-player squad for the upcoming season.
The experienced batter and right-arm quick will join the Renegades’ first official training session prior to BBL|14 on Tuesday, before the side’s practice clash with the Melbourne Stars on Thursday behind closed doors at CitiPower Centre.
Harris is no stranger to the BBL, with the 32-year-old top-order batsman having stints with both the Perth Scorchers and Renegades previously, although he’s had more success against the red ball.
The left-hander played just one game for the Scorchers last season, scoring 8, when they were hit by a long list of unavailability.
Harris has scored 89 runs in 4 One-Day Cup games this season for Victoria, while he’s scored one century and three half-centuries in the Shield.
He seems like cover for the ‘Gades top-order options such as Josh Brown, Jake Fraser-McGurk and Tim Seifert.
Crone previously played 2 BBL games for the Stars when COVID-19 impacted their squad in BBL|11.
More recently, he’s broken into the Victorian Shield side, taking 10 wickets in 3 games this season.
Crone also played for the ‘Gades in the NT Top End Series in August, impressing with 7 wickets in 4 games with an economy rate of 7.93.
The fast bowler is likely cover for ‘Gades quicks Kane Richardson, Fergus O’Neill, Tom Rogers and Gurinder Sandhu.
