The Brisbane Heat have completed their 18-player squad with the signing of all-rounder Jack Wildermuth who’ll be in contention to play early with Michael Neser out.
Wildermuth has been a mainstay of the Heat side for several years but has struggled for games and impact in recent campaigns.
But the door could be open for Wildermuth in BBL|14 with Neser, who often batted 7/8 and bowled 2-4 overs in BBL|13, to miss the first few rounds with a hamstring tendon injury.
Four seasons back, Wildermuth was very SuperCoach relevant given his all-rounder role, starting strong and taking 13 wickets in 12 games with 75 runs with the bat.
He’s been held back by injuries in recent years, but the 31-year-old has had some continuity this season, playing 3 One-Day Cup games and 3 Shield games for Queensland.
Wildermuth will contend with the likes of Jack Wood and Will Prestwidge to take Neser’s role, with English all-rounder Paul Walter likely to stay 6.
Xavier Bartlett has also improved his batting enough to be considered for 7, while he’s a lock in their best bowling line-up, alongside Spencer Johnson, Matt Kuhnemann and Mitch Swepson.
As reigning champions, the Heat are expected to use a similar formula to BBL|13.
