The Melbourne Stars have completed their 18-man squad with the signing Victorian and former Australian quick Peter Siddle on a one-year deal.
The 40-year-old joins the Stars, having taken 10 wickets in 5 One-Day Cup games for Victoria this season.
The veteran only played 4 games in BBL|13 for the Renegades, taking 3 wickets, but has showed renewed form and fitness in state cricket this season.
Siddle has played plenty of BBL cricket with the Gades and Adelaide Strikers, including being the leading wicket-taker in BBL|11 with 30 scalps.
His signing rounds out the Stars’ roster, but they’ll potentially sign a replacement for Test bowler Scott Boland while he’s unavailable.
They’ve already signed English wicketkeeper-batsman Joe Clarke as cover for Ben Duckett, while he’s out early on Test duty.
Stars General Manager Blair Crouch said: “To secure someone of Peter’s experience with the last spot on the list is fantastic, not only for his on-field ability but his leadership off the field and what he can provide to others is something that really appealed to us.
“As we’ve already seen in the current domestic season, Peter is still bowling at a really high level, having taken 10 wickets across 5 One Day Cup appearances so far.”
Siddle added: “It’s great to come full circle and be back at the Stars after being one of the original signings.
“It’s always a privilege playing at the MCG and I’m really looking forward to helping out however I can with this group.”
