Club cricket offered plenty of BBL insights this weekend with starring displays from Renegades Harry Dixon and Gurinder Sandhu, along with Stars all-rounder Jono Merlo and Sixers youngster Joel Davies.
Young opening bat Dixon is unlikely to be in the Renegades’ Round 1 selection consideration but he scored an excellent century for St Kilda which will have them mulling his name.
Merlo also was in action for St Kilda, making a half-century and taking 3 wickets, as he firms for the potentially vacant spot to replace Glenn Maxwell early.
Renegades recruit Sandhu took a 7fa in Queensland, while Davies scored a century in NSW.
In big injury news, Daniel Sams was back bowling for Randwick Petersham in NSW too.
Victoria
Dixon was the star for St Kilda with 120 from 121 balls, including 9 fours and 4 sixes.
Merlo added plenty, scoring 62 from 59 with 2 sixes in there. He also took 3-13 from 5 overs.
Hurricanes spinner Peter Hatzoglou was back in action for Melbourne University, taking 1-35 from 10 and opening the batting, making 16 off 11.
Sixers fringe bowler Mitch Perry took 2-11 from 8 overs for Richmond.
