Hobart Hurricanes’ Bangladeshi import Rishad Hossain ($85k BWL) will be ruled out of BBL|14 with his BPL club Fortune Barishal opting not to release him, according to reports.
Cricbuzz quoted a Barishal official who confirmed the decision, which always loomed likely after the Hurricanes took the leg-spinner with pick 28 of the 2024 BBL Draft.
Rishad had shot to fame after finishing as the third leading wicket-taker at this year’s T20 World Cup with Bangladesh. He had indicated in the media that was keen to take up the Hobart opportunity, however the moving forward of the BPL (Bangladesh Premier League) has proved problematic.
The BBL season commences on December 15, while the BPL starts on December 27, earlier than previous seasons. A fortnight ago, Barishal drafted Rishad to their side.
The Barishal official told Cricbuzz: “We have spoken with Rishad and informed him that we want him to play for us from the very beginning till the end of BPL and as a result we don’t want to release him for BBL and he understood everything and agreed.
“Initially we wanted to release him for BBL but under the present circumstances he is an integral part of our team and so we cannot afford to release him.”
The Canes also drafted imports Shai Hope (4) and Chris Jordan (12), while their current contracted spinners are Paddy Dooley and Peter Hatzoglou.
