Well here we are in the final round of 2024. It’s been a wild ride and we have hit some form with VC/C picks over the last month. Let’s keep it rolling. Hopefully this article helps you in the final round of 2024. All the best!
ROUND 24 VICE CAPTAINS
Nick Daicos
I thought I was going to be mentioning this guy every week in these articles but he has vanished off the scene and rightly so with only 2 out of the last 10 games hitting the 120 threshold. Last week I mentioned the recent beneficiaries of playing Melbourne JHF 141, Butters 131, Bont 182, Treloar 141, Dale 126, Peatling 133, Serong 140 and Brayshaw 137. Now we can add Anderson 122 and Flanders 120. He will be a very popular VC choice this week!
Max Gawn
For a guy that has had to carry this team on one leg, he is doing a bloody good job! He has a 3 round average of 134.7 including recently scoring a massive 177 SuperCoach points. Although his opponent in Cameron is having a sneaky All Australian style back end of the year. McInerney still managed to score 131 SuperCoach points on the weekend against him. I’ll finish with this statistic, Max has played 11 games at the M.C.G 162, 113, 138, 162, 111,111, 180, 132, 114, 100, 97 and 177 SuperCoach points. That is a season average of 133.08 at the M.C.G, that’s probably enough for Gawn owners to take a punt!
Tom Stewart
Tom Stewart had nearly a season high CBAs attending 82% against St Kilda, 69% of his disposal was still in the defensive half as he tends to sneak back and even sneaking a kick in! It is such a SuperCoach friendly role and I expect his scoring is going to benefit this weekend against West Coast. In recent weeks midfielders and defenders (I’m confused about what Tom actually is) have posted massive scores including Powell 131, Rowell 122, McKercher 146, Powell 123, Cripps 142 and Hewett 119. On top of all of this West Coast are his second favourite career match up where he averages 107.4 over 8 games and the last time they played he scored 135 SuperCoach points. I really like him as an option this week.
ROUND 24 CAPTAINS
Sam Flanders
Although his recent month has been slightly off, we could not have asked for anymore from this guy. He has threatened lately to go large against some nice matchups but has let us down slightly. This is a tantalising match up for Flanders. Back in Round 0 Gold Coast played Richmond and he was in the midfield role then but only attended 55% of CBAs and finished on 124 SuperCoach points. It’s been a bit of a role change the last 2 weeks where he has attended 0% and 7% of his teams CBAs, on the weekend but still managed to have 28 disposals and kick 2 goals. Looking at his heat map it looks like a high half forward role. It will be interesting to see what happens this week but Last week Hawthorn absolutely blew Richmond off the park with Jai Newcombe scoring 162 and Dylan Moore 139, can we expect the same for Flanders this week?
Tristan Xerri
Can this guy get any better?! Over his last month of football he has scored 151, 144, 185 and 141, that is a 4 round average of 155.25 SuperCoach points. If you were lucky enough to captain him over the last month you would have gained 1,242 SuperCoach points compared to a month of captain scores of 120 would be 960 SuperCoach points so a handy +282 for your captain choice alone. On top of this Hawks have given away large points to opposing rucks and are ranked 2nd easiest. Last time they met in Round 6, Xerri dominated Meek with +20 hitouts, + 7 tackles, +8 disposals and 144 SuperCoach points. Ride this wave of form!
Lachie Neale
Lachie seems to be either score around 100 mark or 130+ SuperCoach against the Bombers. Over his last 11 appearances against Essendon he has had 7 scores ranging between 133 and 198 SuperCoach points and has his best career average of 122.8 over 14 games. I expect him to run riot against the Bombers who have nothing to play for anymore.
Zach Merrett
Zach enjoys playing at the Gabba where he averages 113.4 over 9 games. Against Brisbane he has his 3rd best career average 113.2 over 12 games including 147, 130 and 155 since 2019. Although they are the hardest team for opposing midfielders this season they have still given away some decent scores lately including Flanders 141, Sinclair 144, Green 119 and Daicos 116.
ROUND 24 POD CAPTAIN
Noah Anderson
Touk Miller was back on the weekend and attended 30% of the team CBAs and as a result of this Anderson dropped 22% on his previous week. This didn’t seem to impact his scoring as he finished the game on 122 SuperCoach points. Richmond are his favourite team to play, he averages 136.5 over 4 games with his highest output being 154 SuperCoach points and his lowest being 122. Back in Round 0 he scored 122 against Richmond. If I owned him, I would be definitely giving him the VC.
