Gold Coast v Geelong

Gold Coast lost Mac Andrew to a leg injury and Suns coach Damien Hardwick said: “We hope it’s not too serious, but we’re not too sure. It was like a kick I think, so whether it’s a little fracture in his fibula, we’re not too sure. We’re hoping for the best.”

Tom De Koning was a late withdrawal for Geelong due to a tight hamstring.

Sydney v Carlton

Carlton subbed out Jacob Weitering after copping a cork to his right knee.  Blues coach Michael Voss said: “He’s got a corky. With all these, it’s just really about how bad it is, so it’s a bit of a wait and see. In terms of how significant it is, it’s a corky, but you’re never too sure what the actual damage is until maybe 48 hours later.”

Voss said Adam Saad and Jesse Motlop would likely return next week. Sydney lost Robbie Fox to an AC joint issue.

Collingwood v Adelaide

Izak Rankine limped off at the final siren with an apparent hamstring concern. Adelaide coach Matthew Nicks said: “We’re fingers crossed at the moment but we think it might be a small hamstring. Twelve months ago v Melbourne I think he might have done the same thing in nearly the same spot on the ground. We’re hoping it’s not to that extent but there may be something small there.”

Collingwood coach Craig McRae said they’d monitor Jordan De Goey after a heavy fall late. He noted Will Hoskin-Elliott went off with a “low grade hamstring” injury and Reef McInnes went out with concussion.

McRae added Beau McCreery would be available next week, while Brody Mihocek was “racing to the line” and Jamie Elliott was a “week to week” proposition.

GWS Giants v Western Bulldogs

GWS subbed out Darcy Jones early with a hamstring injury. Giants coach Adam Kingsley said: “He’ll get a scan tomorrow. We’ll get the severity on that. Hamstring, unable to complete the game, he’s probably missing next week I would suspect.”

St Kilda v Fremantle

Fremantle coach Justin Longmuir said Michael Frederick had entered concussion protocols, while when asked if Sean Darcy would be available next game following a calf issue, he said: “Yeah we think he’ll be.”

On utilizing Darcy alongside Luke Jackson, Longmuir added: “Horses for courses with how we split the ruck role. If we feel like Luke can give us the extra midfielder in the ruck and get his hands on it, then we’ll split the time a little bit more with who spends time forward.”

Brisbane Lions v Richmond

Richmond lost Mykelti Lefau (jaw) and Rhyan Mansell (concussion) to injuries. Tigers coach Adem Yze said about Lefau: “Kelts has unfortunately copped a whack to the jaw. We’re hoping it’s not fractured but we had to sub him out. We’ll get it scanned.”

The Tigers have since followed up with good news on Lefau. Richmond’s update said: “Scans have revealed that forward Mykelti Lefau has avoided a fracture to his jaw. We will monitor him further throughout the week.” Meanwhile in the VFL, Sam Naismith suffered a suspected ACL injury.

Brisbane subbed out midfielder Hugh McCluggage although coach Chris Fagan explained it wasn’t injury related. Fagan also said Zac Bailey is a chance to play next week following injury.

Essendon v North Melbourne

Darcy Parish was a late out for Essendon with calf tightness. Dons coach Brad Scott said: “We don’t think it’s a serious one. He’s got a tight calf.

“My attitude with that is even if he could play, and even if he could get through and not get injured, is he going to play his best? He’s All-Australian for a reason but the game is too hard for that now. If he’s running around worrying about his calf, he’s not going to play very well.

“It’s not like he’s no chance of playing, but the decision for me was really easy, particularly when, I’ll be honest, Elijah Tsatas is there. You know, we’ve been trying to get him into the team for a while.”

Harrison Jones was subbed out after illness during the week, while Sam Durham was benched in the last quarter after a few heavy knocks. Scott said Jordan Ridley was “AFL ready” after injury, having got through the VFL on Sunday.

North lost Miller Bergman to a hamstring injury that’ll require scans.

Port Adelaide v Hawthorn

Port coach Ken Hinkley confirmed Ollie Wines was subbed out due to heart palpitations which is a condition he sometimes experiences. As a result, Wines was aware of it and self diagnosed, meaning Hinkley was comfortable that he’d be OK to play next week.

Hinkley said: “Ollie has dealt with this condition for a while now. It’s an issue in-game when it happens because you have to treat him and to do that you have to take him out of the game. Ollie is actually well. It’s not something that he can’t handle.”

He added: “He’s had it happen twice now in games, it’s happened before at training. And he’s really comfortable, he’s really calm about it. You can imagine when something like that is going on it can be a little bit rattling. But he’s experienced it now, he knows exactly what happens … we expect Ollie will play next week.”

Hinkley also offered an update on Connor Rozee who missed the game with a hamstring issue. When asked if Port expect him back for next game, Hinkley said: “Yeah we do, but things happen. We’re never sure. We do expect him back. It’d be nice to get him back, he was pretty grumpy with me this week but that’s OK.”

Josh Sinn copped a heavy bump to his shoulder and Hinkley said he’d need scans.

West Coast v Melbourne

Melbourne lost Jake Lever to a concussion. West Coast coach Adam Simpson said they picked up no new injuries, while he wasn’t asked for an update on Elliot Yeo.

Christian Salem made his return from injury for the Dees, playing midfield time. Dees coach Simon Goodwin said: “I thought he was probably one of our shining lights after being out of the game for a while. To come into the midfield and also help behind the ball, I thought his game was one of the few that was really strong.”
