Rd 5 SuperCoach VC/C picks: Gawn, Steele & Rowell lead the way

Gather Round was a massive success for football and VC/C selections! I am loving some picks this week with starting with big Maxy Gawn on Thursday night and Matty Rowell who is one I didn’t think I’d be writing about this season!

ROUND 5 VICE CAPTAIN OPTIONS:

Max Gawn

Max Gawn on a Thursday night, this has VC perfection written all over it. Take away his opening round score of 72 and he is averaging 145 SuperCoach points this season. Last time they met at the M.C.G the Dees won by a point and Maxy had 29 disposals, 39 hitouts and kick a goal for 215 SuperCoach points. Maxy enjoys the space of the M.C.G where he averages just under 110. For me he is my VC pick of the round.

Marcus Bontempelli

When all else fails pick Bont. We all know Bevo is unpredictable but in games they need to win they use him in the midfield. Bont’s CBA’s this season have been 26, 25, 13 and 26. Bevo obviously saw the Eagles game an opportunity to sub Libba and rest Bont up forward where he managed to still snag 3 goals. This game at Marvel will be played at high speed and they will want him involved as much as possible. Although his ceiling hasn’t been huge against the Bombers in the past with his highest score being 126 SuperCoach points, I expect him to fire and he will be considered my captain if Gawn fails.

Zach Merrett

This is the first year I have not started Zac Merrett and boy am I kicking myself. He is yet to have a full blowout game but he also hasn’t gone under 127 SuperCoach points and is averaging 131 this season. He is leading the clubs CBA’s this season with 95 and the next closest being Perkins on 74. He used to get pushed out of CBA’s but this season he wants to do all he can to lead from the front. His ownership is growing each week but still stands in P.O.D territory of 9%. He will be in my team very soon and if I owned I’d confidently be riding this form with a VC.

ROUND 5 CAPTAIN OPTIONS:

Jack Steele

Man has this guy been a pick up. He has increased by 60k, has a break even of 69 and has a 3 round average of 129 SuperCoach points. This is a team he loves to play, it’s his 3rd highest career team average and his last 4 scores have been 135, 140, 91 and 149. Although Giants have been a really strong team across all areas of the ground this season they have still given up scores of 131, 121, 110, 129 and 125 to premium midfielders this year. He just seems to be elite in areas that matter with scoring SuperCoach points and one Ill be definitely considering for captain.

Matt Rowell

Now here is a name I didn’t think I’d be writing this year but along side Sheezle, you just cant keep ignoring consistent numbers. He has the 4th ranked average for midfields in SuperCoach with 130 and a ceiling so far of 155! Sam Mitchell has been susceptible to a tag but Hawks have still given up 127,146, 138 and 119 this season to premium midfielders. One part of his game he has improved is he is starting to hit the scoreboard a little more, loves a tackle and is averaging 20 contested possessions a game which is SuperCoach gold!

Luke Ryan

He has finally made an appearance in my team this week and boy am I excited. He is clearly the number 1 SuperCoach defender so far this season with an insane kicking efficiency of 91.6%. So far this season Port have been quite inaccurate kicking averaging 14.5 points a game and with Ryan averaging over 65% of the teams kick ins it will only work in his favour. It alway feels a little uncomfortable picking a defender as a captain but his numbers put this doubt at ease.

P.O.D CAPTAIN

Rory Laird

Will this guy every slow down? Laird is someone I always pick but didn’t start this season. He is averaging 117, but yet to have a break out game and I believe this will be the one. He loves playing the blues with career average of 116 over 13 games. His last 3 against the Blues he has averaged 134 SuperCoach points and loves playing at Marvel, playing 24 games and averaging 103.5. He continues to rack up contested possessions and tackles. I’d be happy to lock in Mr Consistent.
