Charlie Constable mounted his case for a late-season recall with Gold Coast out of the finals hunt after a game-high 37 disposals and 10 marks in the VFL on Saturday.
Constable had 24 kicks and 13 handballs, with 10 marks and two tackles, in Gold Coast’s 68-point win over Sydney in the VFL. The AFL side suffered a four-goal loss, which could open the door for Constable.
However, interim Suns coach Steven King did note after the game that one of the club’s two focuses for the rest of the year is to win the VFL flag.
Brayden Fiorini looks likely to get another chance after four goals and 35 disposals for the Suns, with seven clearances and nine inside 50s.
Tom McDonald returned from injury for Casey Demons but only kicked one goal from 10 disposals, which may impact Melbourne’s plans with Brodie Grundy and thus Max Gawn.
Mason Cox dominated the ruck for Collingwood’s VFL side with 52 hit-outs as he pushes for a recall, which may impact Darcy Cameron.
Sydney’s mid-season draftee Jack Buller kicked two goals, with a spot potentially opening up after Joel Amartey experienced hamstring tightness in the AFL side.
Among the rooks, Carlton mid Jaxon Binns continues to push for a debut with 26 disposals, while Giants forward Aaron Cadman kicked eight goals to stay in AFL contention.
On GWS, Brayden Preuss returned from long-term injury with 20 disposals and 26 hit-outs, with Matt Flynn playing more forward and kicking four goals. That may impact their plans with Kieren Briggs in the AFL side.
