SuperCoach Upgrade Season Planning: Who’s hot property in the coming weeks?

Upgrade season is around the corner in SuperCoach, and it’s time to begin planning our targets. Which premiums do we look at over the next few weeks?

DEFENCE

Important Note: Sam Docherty ($525.5k, 143 BE)

Before we get to the high breakeven premiums dropping in price, we have to talk about trade options for Docherty, who will be out 4-6 weeks with a meniscus tear. This could be your avenue to grab Jordan Dawson ($618.2k, 67 BE) who is looking like a must-have, Tom Stewart ($572.8k, 69 BE) with the 18 in Round 1 out of his system, a POD like Adam Saad ($587.1k, 104 BE) who’s getting the bulk of Carlton’s backline points, or Nick Daicos ($590.5k, 78 BE) if for some reason you still don’t have him.

James Sicily ($580.6k, 145 BE)

Playing key defender against arguably the best player in the competition Jeremy Cameron, resulted in a rare down game for Sicily, scoring 76 off just 14 disposals and four marks. Prior to this, he had been averaging 27.7 disposals and a whopping 13.3 marks. He is definitely top 6 material and a prime trade-in target in a couple of weeks.

Jack Sinclair ($576.9k, 154 BE)

A 63 against Essendon in Round 3 has Sinclair’s price dropping. Besides that game, he has scored well and is backing up his form of last season. He’s had at least 26 disposals in every game, his CBA numbers have been trending up (38% v GC), and he’s still taking some kick-ins even with the CBA increase. One you can look at next week, and could be a handy POD too.

Mason Redman ($503k, 111 BE)

If you’re looking for value and/or a POD to move up the ranks, Redman could be that guy. Three scores over 110 so far this season, and he showed his ceiling last year, including scores of 176, 152 and 144. However, his floor is extremely low for a premium, already scoring a 49 this season. A risk to consider taking depending on your position.

MIDFIELD

Clayton Oliver ($705.8k, 127 BE)

Yes his price is absurd and he won’t be dropping anytime soon. But he’s an absolute must-have and his fixture is not fair. Highly recommend at least trying to find a way to bring in Clarry.

Rory Laird ($652.4k, 163 BE)

A win for those who didn’t start Laird. Besides a 147 in Round 2, he has been an underwhelming starting selection and will be a great trade-in target in a couple of weeks if he doesn’t go bang.

Touk Miller ($625.9k, 128 BE)

Many would have been scared off Touk after a hamstring issue in the preseason (including myself), but he’s had a strong start. Even though he hasn’t quite showcased his ceiling yet, he hasn’t dropped under the ton so far, and it looks like he’ll bottom out over 600k. If cash allows, he should be one of your first mid upgrades.

Lachie Neale ($619.9k, 136 BE)

Neale has had an underwhelming start to the season, with just one score over 110 and two games with under 25 disposals. I’d wait and see on him, he doesn’t quite look like the Neale of old that can produce an insane high ceiling score at the moment, but still definitely one to keep on your radar for when he shows signs of heating up.

Marcus Bontempelli ($610.5k, 139 BE)

Bont has had a solid start to the year, without showing his high ceiling just yet. His highest disposal count actually coincided with his lowest score (89) due to a ridiculous 13 clangers. Besides that game, he’s passed the ton including scores of 125 and 122. He’s already highly owned, but if you don’t have Bont, he’s one you can look to upgrade to soon.

Patrick Cripps ($594.1k, 114 BE)

Cripps has had a consistent start to the year, only dropping under the ton once (99) thus far. This might be the price he bottoms out at, especially against Adelaide this week (151 and 146 v ADE last year). But Crippa will still be a good pickup in the next week or two.

Jack Macrae ($586.9k, 119 BE)

The once most reliable SuperCoach selection has been pushed out of his best role, having far less mid time (51% CBA avg), massively impacting his scoring and ceiling. One I wouldn’t touch unless Bevo stops throwing the magnets around.

Josh Kelly ($583.4k, 78 BE)

Kelly doesn’t have a high BE, but provided he doesn’t score too high, he’d be a solid pickup around the 595-600k mark next week. Getting consistent mid time (71% CBA avg) and performing well. Only downside is that GWS’ easier fixtures will be out of the way after this round.

Zach Merrett ($578.9k, 133 BE) & Darcy Parish ($578.3k, 151 BE)

The Essendon duo will be great value in a couple of weeks, both are capable of high ceiling scores. Their fixture over the next month is quite difficult, so they can be ones to wait and see on.

Andrew Brayshaw ($562.5k, 124 BE)

Brayshaw already presents as good value after starting at $615.6k. He’s filling up the stat sheet every week, but it hasn’t translated to consistent SC scoring. Freo’s form is a concern as well, they may be a team you’d want to stay away from for now. But Brayshaw is still a watch given his value.

RUCKS

Tim English ($648.4k, 87 BE)

Just about everyone already has two premium rucks, so English will be the only one listed here because he’s head and shoulders above the rest. Definitely one to bring in if you have the means for it.

FORWARDS

Stephen Coniglio ($516k, 167 BE)

The majority would have a mix (or all) of Josh Dunkley ($578.7k), Tim Taranto ($525.3k), Connor Rozee ($524.2k) and Errol Gulden ($495k). Cogs is the least owned out of the popular premium selections up forward (21%), and after a 58 and 71, he will be a great pickup soon. One to plan for in the next few weeks.
