AFL Fantasy Round 5 Trade Talk: Who are the popular ins and outs?

We were supposed to be entering upgrade season, but many coaches were hit with the Sam Docherty and Will Day bullets yesterday, so it looks like fix up trades for the majority of coaches.

1. Nick Daicos ( traded in by 7.7k coaches)

Nick Daicos continues to impress every week, and he did so again against the Lions. 126 points in what was meant to be a tough matchup. A great swap from Sam Docherty and if he doesn’t cop any attention against St Kilda this week, could go massive.

2. Jordan Dawson (traded in by 5.1k coaches)

Been playing a lot more midfield the last 2 weeks, and from what Matthew Nicks has been saying, the Crows want to keep him up around the ball. Did everything last week, even went back and took some kickins. Great option that will likely be a top 2-3 defender, at least a top 6.

3. Mitch Duncan (traded in by 4.2k coaches)

As we can see, all of the most traded in players are defenders, and one that looked great last week was Mitch Duncan. Played his first game for the season and racked up 127 points from 31 disposals and 14 marks. Has a great matchup again this week, but does has an injury history which is a flag.

4. Jayden Hunt (traded in by 3.5k coaches)

Some coaches are opting to go a Will Day down, or if they only have one of Docherty and Day, are using the opportunity to go them down and a rookie up to Jayden Hunt. Has looked great the past three weeks, scoring over 80 in all of those. Does have two tough games in Geelong and Port Adelaide in his next two, but will make some good cash with a breakeven of just 14.

5. Tom Stewart (traded in by 3.4k coaches)

Was a popular target last week, and still comes in at a good price. The conditions didn’t do Stewart any favours, plus there always seemed to be a player next to Stewart, resulting in him not getting his usual plus 6’s. Good matchup against West Coast this week, and a fair bit cheaper than the likes of Daicos, Dawson and Sicily.

Other popular trade ins: Clayton Oliver, Lachie Weller, Daniel Rioli, Tim English, Trent Rivers.

Popular Trade Outs

1. Sam Docherty (traded out by 23k coaches)

After hearing the news that Doch had surgery on a torn meniscus and will miss the next 4-6 weeks, it is a must trade for coaches. As you can see from the most traded in players, coaches are going to premium defenders, while also going to a mid priced defender to then upgrade in another line.

2. Will Day (traded out by 6.4k coaches)

After being offered a two-game suspension by the MRO, coaches are also jumping off Will Day. It’s hard because he still has a low breakeven and has a great role. Most coaches will trade, but some could hold, especially if Cowan goes well on Thursday night. If Hawthorn appeal the suspension, and it gets reduced to one or he gets off all together, that means he is likely a hold for a lot of coaches.

3. James Worpel (traded out by 2.4k coaches)

Coaches are still moving off Worpel, and he didn’t convince coaches on the weekend that they should keep him with. a score of 71 points. With Day out (unless they challenge it), Worpel could see an increase at CBA’s and you could hold, but still a good move to jump off if you can.

4. Charlie Constable (traded out by 2.3k coaches)

Some coaches are still stuck with Charlie Constable in their side. Did play well in the VFL this past weekend, with 35 disposals. With Brandon Ellis also making his return in that same VFL game, it doesn’t seem likely Constable will find a spot in the team.

5. Andrew McGrath (traded out by 2k coaches)

One of the disappointing mid pricers this season has been Andrew McGrath. With a move to half back, coaches thought they would see an uptick in scoring, but he has been stagnant, scoring around the 80 mark, but produced his worst game of the season with a 65 last week against GWS. If you have the luxury to move off, it looks a good move with his poor scoring and tough run coming up.

Other popular trade outs: Campbell Chesser, Rory Laird, Alwyn Davey Jnr, Toby Nankervis, Josh Dunkley.
