Role plays a big part in determining a player’s AFL Fantasy and SuperCoach scoring potential. In this weekly subscriber-only column, we reflect on the past round’s CBAs, kick-ins and TOG% for an insight.
Essendon v Port Adelaide
CBAs (35): Dylan Shiel (28) and Jye Caldwell (21) both returned after missing last round to impact Essendon’s set-up, but Zach Merrett (26 at 74%) still attended plenty of CBs despite his 86/73 due to a tag.
Ollie Wines (29) had a bigger share than usual for Port helping his 123/140, with Jeremy Finlayson (25) relishing the lead ruck role with 112/133.
Kick-Ins: Jordan Ridley (4/4) and Mason Redman (4/4) shared the Dons’ duties. Kane Farrell (4/3) led Port’s kick-ins, having taken over from Riley Bonner lately.

Sydney v Collingwood
CBAs (21): Callum Mills (9) continues to get squeezed out at around 43%, yet he scored 129/128. With a few key Pies mids out, Scott Pendlebury (19) had higher CBAs for his 95/91.
Kick-Ins: Jake Lloyd (5/5) and Nick Blakey (3/3) shared Sydney’s duties, while Nick Daicos (3/3), Darcy Moore (3/3) and Jeremy Howe (3/3) led the way for the Pies.
TOG%: Mason Cox was down at 58%, allowing Darcy Cameron to play 77% TOG and score 96/100.

Richmond v Hawthorn
CBAs (32): There was no shortage of CB opportunity for Shai Bolton (27) who was shut down by a Finn Maginness tag, scoring 53/57. Jayden Short (19) had his highest CBA percentage in five rounds, scoring 97/108.
James Sicily (6) came into the Hawks midfield in the first half for the first time this season, helping his score of 116/118.
Kick-Ins: Nick Vlastuin (5/5) led the Tigers kick-ins. Blake Hardwick (3/3) took Hawthorn’s most but Sicily (2/2) got a few when he dropped back in the second half.
TOG%: Sicily played 96% despite his first-half midfield time. Second-gamer Jai Serong played 70%.

Fremantle v West Coast
CBAs (18): Sean Darcy (16) barely missed a CBA, fueling his score of 147/155. Nothing of note from the Eagles.
Kick-Ins: Luke Ryan (1/1) played second fiddle to Brennan Cox (3/3) for once. Freo kicked 17 behinds so Shannon Hurn (14/10) boosted his score nicely up to 115/139.
TOG%: Will Brodie’s TOG was down at 68%. Nic Naitanui only played 66%, letting Darcy off the chain.

Melbourne v Carlton
CBAs (24): Christian Petracca (11) was only used for less than 50% CBAs which was unusual and scored 78/99. With Adam Cerra, George Hewett and Matthew Kennedy out, Sam Docherty (18) got moved into the middle, scoring 123/121.
Kick-Ins: Steven May (9/9) took most of Melbourne’s kick-ins. Adam Saad (7/4) and Mitch McGovern (6/6) took all of Carlton’s with Docherty up the field.
TOG%: Luke Jackson was shuffled out to 64% with Max Gawn having 89%.

Gold Coast v Geelong
CBAs (30): The Suns’ midfield set-up was standard, although Alex Davies (13) attended a few more CBs than usual. Mark Blicavs (24) had bulk CBAs after Rhys Stanley (17) was subbed out, scoring 120/131.
Kick-Ins: Brandon Ellis (7/6) dominated Gold Coast’s kick-ins. Tom Stewart (3/2) and Zach Tuohy (2/2) shared the duties for the Cats.
TOG%: Veterans Patrick Dangerfield (69%) and Joel Selwood (65%) had low TOG.

Adelaide v North Melbourne
CBAs (29): Ben Keays (15) was marginally above 50% for CBs, scoring 72/66. Ben Cunnington (16) consumed plenty of CBAs for North on his return, with Hugh Greenwood (4) squeezed out to medi sub.
Kick-Ins: Jordan Dawson (3/2) had less than Brodie Smith (7/7), yet Dawson scored 129/145. Aaron Hall (6/6) and Luke McDonald (6/6) took most of North’s kick-ins and Jaidyn Stephenson had none.
TOG%: Ben Cunnington played 67% on his return.

Western Bulldogs v GWS Giants
CBAs (20): Tim English’s (13) CBAs dipped to 65%, down on his 84% season average, with Stefan Martin’s (7) return. English scored 69/88. Josh Kelly didn’t have any CBAs for the second straight week, yet scored big, with 142/112.
Kick-Ins: Bailey Dale (4/4), Caleb Daniel (2/2) and Adam Treloar (2/2) shared the Dogs’ duties, while Isaac Cumming (5/5) and Harry Himmelberg (3/3) did that for GWS.
TOG%: Stefan Martin had an impact on Tim English, but only had 59%, with English played 86% TOG.

St Kilda v Brisbane Lions
CBAs (23): Rowan Marshall (21) only missed two CBs, scoring 118/113. Brisbane’s mid set-up was standard.
Kick-Ins: Jack Sinclair (5/5) took five of St Kilda’s nine kick-ins. Daniel Rich (9/9) took nine of Brisbane’s 12 kick-ins.
TOG%: Marcus Windhager tagged Lachie Neale and didn’t let up with both going at 88% TOG. Neale only scored 60/76.
