Role plays a big part in determining a player’s AFL Fantasy and SuperCoach scoring potential. In this weekly subscriber-only column, we reflect on the past round’s CBAs, kick-ins and TOG% for an insight.
Port Adelaide v Essendon
CBAs (19): The ruck share of Sam Hayes (12) was down to 63% after concerns he wouldn’t make the final 22, having been named on an extended bench. Travis Boak (9) attended fewer than 50% CBs, scoring 85/101.
Zach Merrett (12) returned to his midfield role after two games with CBAs around 30% scoring 103/130, with Andy McGrath (0) dropping out. Archie Perkins (16) had a major rise and season high.
Kick-ins: Riley Bonner (9/8) consumed the bulk of Port’s kick-ins (14) on his return. Jordan Ridley (7/7) did the same for Essendon after returning from illness. McGrath (2/2) had two kick-ins, reverting to a backline role.
TOG%: Sam Hayes (66%) had low TOG although it was wet and Essendon’s rucks, Sam Draper and Andrew Phillips (both 66%) weren’t dissimilar.
Collingwood v Carlton
CBAs (26): Darcy Cameron (19) retained the bulk of the CBAs despite Mason Cox’s (7) return to fitness in the ruck. Jack Crisp’s (11) CBA numbers improved on his six in Round 10 after being unwell, but were still below 50%, scoring 102/97.
Matt Kennedy’s absence wasn’t filled by Sam Walsh (11), with Paddy Dow (15) coming into the midfield mix. Walsh still scored a team-high 120/123.
Kick-ins: Nick Daicos didn’t take any of Collingwood’s nine kick-ins. Sam Docherty (6/5) continued to be the lead from kick-ins in Zac Williams’ absence.
TOG%: Cameron (81%) had high TOG, showing he spent time forward when not rucking. Ruck partner Cox had 71% TOG. George Hewett was a bit low at 75%.

St Kilda v North Melbourne
CBAs (27): Mitch Owens (10) came into the Saints midfield and had 37% CBAs, with Mitch Windhager getting none. Rowan Marshall only had nine CBAs, yet missed out on forward status in the DPP updates.
Todd Goldstein (17) had more CBAs than fellow ruck Tristan Xerri (10) which marked a shift.
Kick-ins: Jack Sinclair (5/5) took five of his side’s eight kick-ins for his 133/140. Luke McDonald (7/5) monopolized North’s kick-ins.
TOG%: Xerri’s TOG was particularly low at 58%. Hugh Greenwood, who had a major drop in CBAs (7) was down at 63%.
Gold Coast v Hawthorn
CBAs (28): Matt Rowell (24) had the Suns’ most CBAs alongside Jarrod Witts (24). Rowell scored 66/72.
Tom Mitchell (22) enjoyed a major uptick in attending CBs, up to 79% having averaged 54% throughout the rest of the season. But Jaeger O’Meara’s absence may have been a contributing factor as he’d averaged 57% CBAs across the season.
Kick-ins: Lachie Weller (7/7) took most of Gold Coast’s 12 kick-ins. James Sicily (3/3) was among five Hawks who took their 13 kick-ins.
TOG%: Sicily spent 100% time on ground. Rookies Sam Butler (70%) and Malcolm Rosas (67%) were among the lowest.

West Coast v Western Bulldogs
CBAs (37): Callum Jamieson (23) attended more CBs than more senior ruck Bailey Williams (14) for West Coast.
Tim English (29) returned from injury and illness and slotted straight back into his role. Josh Dunkley (12) was the mid squeezed out again, with only 32% CBAs, with Tom Liberatore (29) taking a few more in Bailey Smith’s absence.
Kick-ins: Despite Shannon Hurn still being out and Jeremy McGovern going off injured, Alex Witherden (4/4) didn’t dominate the 10 kick-ins with Jamaine Jones (3/0) and Jackson Nelson (1/1) getting their firsts of the season.
Caleb Daniel (4/3) and Bailey Dale (2/2) shared the Dogs’ six kick-ins as per usual.
TOG%: English (80%) had plenty of TOG, erasing any fears of being eased back in on his return. Buku Khamis (64%) was quite low and appears in danger of losing his spot.
Melbourne v Fremantle
CBAs (25): Christian Petracca may have been unwell but he still had 19 CBAs, going at 76%. James Aish’s (15) tagging role meant he came into more CBs, squeezing out Caleb Serong (12) to an extent, contributing to his lower 68/75.
Kick-ins: Steven May’s (3/3) concussion meant Jake Bowey (4/4) took some of Melbourne’s 10 kick-ins. Luke Ryan (10/10) monopolized Freo’s kick-ins, helping him score a game-high 137/141.
TOG%: Petracca spent 86% TOG despite being crook. Will Brodie (69%) continues to have low TOG.

Geelong v Adelaide
CBAs (26): With Patrick Dangerfield out, Tom Atkins (19) had a major rise in CBAs. Cooper Stephens had nine CBAs, after getting 10 in Round 10.
Reilly O’Brien (24) returned with devastating effect, scoring 159/175. Sam Berry’s CBAs dropped down to eight, scoring 68/65, with Matt Crouch’s (15) return.
Kick-ins: Tom Stewart (5/4) took five of Geelong’s 13 kick-ins to help his bumper score of 169/174. Jordan Dawson (1/1) only took one of Adelaide’s seven kick-ins.
TOG%: Stephens (60%) had Geelong’s lowest TOG. Berry and Crouch both only had 71% TOG.
Brisbane Lions v GWS Giants
CBAs (35): Lachie Neale (30) led the way as per usual for the Lions, scoring 143/164. Cam Rayner (17) had a season-high number of CBAs in Hugh McCluggage’s absence. Rayner scored 79/98.
GWS’ midfield mix under new coach Mark McVeigh continues to take shape with Stephen Coniglio (22) having 63% CBAs. Harry Perryman’s (27) numbers remained strong, but Tim Taranto’s likely return after the bye may impact.
Kick-ins: Daniel Rich (5/4) and Keidean Coleman (1/1) had Brisbane’s kick-ins. Dayne Zorko had none for the fifth straight week, while he only had nine CBAs. Isaac Cumming (8/8) and Harry Himmelberg (5/5) led the way for GWS.
TOG%: Keidean Coleman had an injury concern but played on thus only 66%. Coniglio had excellent TOG for a mid at 83%. Rookie Jacob Wehr (74%) was solid.

Sydney v Richmond
CBAs (35): Luke Parker (27) continued his good midfield role, scoring 108/116. Debutant Matty Roberts had three CBAs but struggling for 6/8.
Jayden Short (21) had over 50% CBAs, while Dion Martin (16) rose up a bit to 45%.
Kick-ins: Nick Blakey’s absence meant Jake Lloyd (9/8) took nine of Sydney’s 10 kick-ins yet only managed 81/101. Richmond shared their kick-ins around as per usual.
TOG%: Roberts only had 49% on debut. Martin’s TOG was impressive at 88% given his CBAs.
