Carlton have confirmed that George Hewett is a late withdrawal due to injury, while Jordan De Goey is in doubt for Collingwood, youngster Aiden Begg will debut and Malcolm Rosas returns for Gold Coast.
DEBUTANTS ALERT
Jack Carroll (AF $190k SC $123k MID) will make his debut for Carlton. Carroll went pick 41 in the 2020 AFL Draft and had 27 disposals and two goals in the VFL last week.
Carlton coach Michael Voss said: “He comes into the team in really good form. He’s tough and he’s hard and he’s earned his spot.”
Young Pies ruckman Aiden Begg (AF $190k SC $123k RUCK) will play with Brodie Grundy out injured. He was picked up in last year’s mid-season draft and McRae said: “His form in the VFL has been really strong. He’s improved considerably. I never thought we’d be in a position to be considering his name in Round 7.”

UPDATES
Carroll gets his chance after Carlton confirmed that George Hewett (AF $758k SC $536k D/M) will miss their Round 7 game due to a corked calf.
Voss said: “We think he’ll just miss this week. It’s a bit of soreness. We tried to get him going yesterday but this morning didn’t respond as well as we’d liked. We take a more conservative approach.”
There’s some doubt at Collingwood about the availability of Jordan De Goey (AF $749k SC $481k M/F) due to gastro.
Collingwood coach Craig McRae said: “We’ve had a little bit of gastro go through the place. Will (Hoskin-Elliott) and Jordie have been out today. Hopefully in the next 24 hours they’re a bit better… He hasn’t trained the last 24 hours.”
McRae was asked about a niggle for Nick Daicos (AF $636k SC $381k D/M) and a potential rest. He said: “He’s fine. He’s had a bit of a sore foot lingering for a few weeks but he trained really well today.
On a rest, McRae added: “We’re conscious of that. I liken them to two-year horses, some race early, some don’t, some need a spell. We’re conscious of Nick’s workload and lack of games in previous years. We’re trying to manage him throughout the weeks. Ideally we don’t have to rest him throughout games but it is a long season.”
Nic Martin (AF $520k SC $298k M/F) continues to impress at Essendon, winning praise from coach Ben Rutten who said: “We’re most impressed with his running ability and work rate.
“We love his ball use. We’re trying to maximise his strengths. We certainly weren’t expecting the speed he’s been able to pick up the game.”
