Cripps not ruled out of Round 5 yet, Hinge to be available, Whitfield cleared of injury, Durdin out of protocols

The Brisbane-Collingwood teams were named with the Lions announcing a debutant, while Patrick Cripps could still play in Round 5 and there was good news for Mitch Hinge and Lachie Whitfield.

Ins: De Goey, Roughead, Cox, Kreuger, Adams, Lohmann, McInerney

Outs: Mihocek (H&S), Ginnivan (inj), Elliott (inj), Noble, Henry, Bianco, Robertson, Cockatoo, Fullarton

Key holds: McInnes

Kai Lohmann (AF $252k SC $121k FWD) will debut for the Lions after going pick 20 in 2021 AFL Draft. Lohmann had 14 disposals, five marks, five tackles and two goals in the VFL last weekend, while he’s kicked nine goals in three VFL games this season.

The uncertainty on Patrick Cripps (AF $803k SC $525k MID) continues with Carlton Head of Football Brad Lloyd saying he may still play in Round 5.

Lloyd told SEN: “His hamstring is not too bad at all. It’s pretty minor. He sort of just overstretched. He was on the ground crouching down and sort of got a bit of contact, so he’s really just overstretched there.

“He’s had a scan and it was pretty positive. There’s not much damage there at all. He’s likely to miss a week, hasn’t been ruled out at this stage for this week, but he’s likely to miss a week and be back the following week which is a good result. You go into those scans and you’re nervous and you think it’s minor, but it doesn’t always go that way. It was a good result in the end.”

Carlton confirmed that Corey Durdin (AF $268k SC $180k FWD) has also cleared health and safety protocols.

Mitch Hinge (AF $440k SC $266k DEF) appears set to be available for Adelaide after a hip injury. Crows coach Matthew Nicks said: “He’s pulled up quite well. At this stage, he’ll be available. It was very much light duties today with him.”

Jack Hayes (AF $367k SC $187k F/R) is no lock to take Paddy Ryder’s place. Saints stand-in coach Brendon Lade said: “We’ve Hayes who was probably unlucky to go out of our side and we had Tom Campbell who was our player of the week in the VFL. We’ve got a couple of options (to replace Ryder).”

GWS coach Leon Cameron declared Lachie Whitfield (AF $744k SC $466k D/M) good to go this round. Cameron said: “He’s fine. He trained today. Clearly he was a bit sore in that knee when it buckled in a tackle but he’s pulled up pretty well. He’s a bit banged up but he trained today and got through. He’ll be fine.”

Willie Rioli (AF $407k SC $283k FWD) should be fine to play after a cork. West Coast Head of Health Mark Finucane: “Willie copped a knock to the quad early in the game. He was a bit stiff and sore on the flight on the way home. He’ll have a lighter start to the week but will be fine for the game.”

Essendon confirmed that Kaine Baldwin (AF $190k SC $123k FWD) has cleared concussion protocols after a head knock in the VFL.
