THURSDAY TEAMS

Ins: Clurey, Lever

Outs: Skinner, Frederick, Smith, Bedford

Key Holds: McEntee, Mead, Bowey (wing)

Sam Skinner (AF $208k SC $123k D/F) drops out of the Port side, with coach Ken Hinkley revealing he is still struggling for the ankle injury sustained last round. He said: “Sam is not available for tomorrow. He’s still getting over his ankle. Because it’s a six-day turnaround, he’s not had enough time.”

Sam Hayes (AF $190k SC $123k RUCK) is an emergency although Hinkley admitted he was “close”.

UPDATES

Braydon Preuss (AF $411k SC $204k RUCK) looks certain to hold his spot but there may be an impact on his CBAs as GWS weigh up playing him sole ruck in Round 4 against Fremantle.

GWS coach Leon Cameron said: “He’s pulled up well. We look forward to going over there (Freo) & taking on their ruck combination. We’ll just decide on whether we add Matty Flynn to support him or we go with what we had last week.”

Caleb Serong (AF $659k SC $451k MID) spoke on 91.3 Sport FM this morning and hinted that he’ll miss this weekend. Serong said: “We’re trying to play a long game and not rush me back. This is one that can get worse progressively, if I get another knock. If it’s sitting out one now & then being right for the rest of the year.”

North coach David Noble voluntarily flagged a potential debut for Miller Bergman (AF $216k SC $117k D/M). He said: “Miller Bergman has had a really good pre-season and a couple of good games… There’s some guys there that are certainly around the mix.”

Noble also spoke about the role of Jason Horne-Francis (AF $396k SC $259k MID) who has had more mid time lately with a few others out. He said: “I’d like him forward as I think he can take a mark & kick a goal. He’s clever. He’s got a great vertical jump. He’s a natural competitor. He loves being around the contest. I’ve been really impressed.”

Geelong coach Chris Scott confirmed Joel Selwood (AF $677k SC $499k MID) will be rested this weekend.
