Adelaide coach Matthew Nicks spoke about the time of ground of Matt Crouch (AF $654k SC $482k MID) which was at 66% in Round 1. Nicks said: “Slowly as the year plays out, we’ll just massage that. We want him at his freshest & best around stoppage. When you’re wrestling for position, it’s taxing. It’s something we’ll continue to look at.”

Nicks also spoke about Wayne Milera (AF $382k SC $271k DEF) and his chances of a recall. He said: “(If we got) 10-15 AFL games out of Junior that’d be fantastic… On the weekend he showed some signs. He’s in our best 22 but at the moment that step-up to AFL is a huge step-up. Him having 1-2 hit-outs in SANFL will benefit him more than an AFL game.”

Port coach Ken Hinkley confirmed that Jackson Mead (AF $205k SC $123k MID) will be their medical sub this round. He said: “He was (unlucky). He’ll be in the 23. He’ll play as our sub. We like to make sure we keep them in the side as much as we can. Sometimes it’s a juggle.”

Hinkley also spoke about the role of debutant Josh Sinn (AF $268k SC $157k D/M). He said: “The flexibility is really important for us… He can play inside or outside & both ends of the ground.”

The Port coach also discussed Sam Skinner (AF $190k SC $123k D/F) who’ll make his club debut. Hinkley said: “He’s earned it. He was in the mix last week. His form throughout the preseason has been really solid. His intercept marking & ability to go fiercely at the ball is at a high level.”

Brisbane named Dayne Zorko (AF $860k SC $595k MID) in their 22 despite his injury last week. Lions coach Chris Fagan said: “He’s well positioned to play at this point in time. Structurally his ankle is fine. The soreness is around a bit of scar tissue where the operation took place. That’s prob going to hang around for a while.”
