Clarke included for Stars, Coulter-Nile out with hamstring, Henriques confirms COVID-19 for him & Abbott

Joe Clarke was a shock inclusion for the Melbourne Stars’ Round 10 game on Monday, while Nathan Coulter-Nile was ruled out with injury and Moises Henriques confirmed he and Sean Abbott have COVID-19.

The Hobart Hurricanes named a 15-man squad to play the Sydney Thunder in the early game (2:10pm AEDT start) at the MCG.

Harry Brook ($72k BAT) and Jordan Thompson ($81k BAT/BWL) both return to the squad after time out due to being close contacts, with Tom Lammonby ($113k BAT) drops out and Matthew Wade ($84k BAT/WKP) is still absent.

The Thunder confirmed their 17-man squad, with Chris Green ($128k BWL) absent also as a close contact.

Hurricanes: Bell, Brook, David, Handscomb (c), Jewell, Lamichhane, McDermott, Meredith, Owen, Parker, Rogers, Sanders, Short, Thompson, Wright

Thunder: Cook, Cutting, Davies, Doggett, Gilkes, Hales, Hasnain, Holt, McAndrew, Nair, Ross, Sams, Sandhu, J.Sangha, T.Sangha, Tremain, Whiteman

The Melbourne Stars named a 17-man squad to play the Adelaide Strikers at the MCG from 7:15pm AEDT.

Adam Zampa ($110k BWL), Joe Burns ($84k BAT), Joe Clarke ($149k BAT/WKP), Sam Elliott ($42k BWL), Clint Hinchliffe ($60k BAT/BWL), Nick Larkin ($103k BAT), Sam Rainbird ($93k BWL), Marcus Stoinis ($81k BAT/BWL) and Beau Webster ($43k BAT) all returned after COVID-19.

Glenn Maxwell ($165k BAT/BWL), Justin Avendano ($53k BAT), Ahmed Daniyal ($63k BWL), Lachlan Bangs ($42k BAT) and Charlie Wakim ($44k BAT) all dropped out.

The selection of Clarke caught some SuperCoaches off guard having been on a different timeline to the rest of the group. Stars stand-in skipper Adam Zampa said: “Joe Clarke once he gets cleared from the doctors and the right people I think he’ll be available tomorrow.”

Nathan Coulter-Nile ($134k BWL) returned to the side and Zampa said: “Nathan Coulter-Nile is still hampered with a hamstring injury he got before quarantine. He’s one of those guys who’ll take a bit longer.”

On his own condition, Zampa said: “I still feel a bit rundown. Everyone is going to be in their own personal positions. We’re not going to force guys to play if they’re not ready. Some guys were asymptomatic. I’ve recovered well. I’m not 100% yet.”

On Stoinis, Zampa added: “Stoin is back. I think he’s going to be one of the guys named in the squad tomorrow. He’s got very similar symptoms to me & a similar mental state.”

The Stars confirmed that Peter Nevill ($61k WKP/BAT) “has returned to NSW and will take no further part in BBL|11, replaced in the squad by Patrick Rowe.” That makes him an option as a NPP loop.

Stars: Zampa (c), Qais, Burns, Cartwright, Clarke, Couch, Crone, Dean, Elliott, Hinchliffe, Larkin, O’Connell, Rainbird, Rauf, Rowe, Stoinis, Webster

Sean Abbott ($244k BWL) and Moises Henriques ($116k BAT/BWL) were both absent from Sunday’s game against the Perth Scorchers.

During the game, Henriques did a Twitter Takeover where he confirmed they both have COVID-19. Henriques posted: “No symptoms at the moment, both of us are healthy and without symptoms.”

The Sixers had on Thursday confirmed four players had tested positive to COVID-19 without ever revealing their identity, with both actually named in their squad for the Perth game.
