Stars confirm Zampa return, Heat bowler selection squeeze looms, Strikers omit four
Adam Zampa was confirmed to return for the Melbourne Stars after a game off, while a selection squeeze looms as the Brisbane Heat and the Adelaide Strikers omitted four players from their squad.
The Hobart Hurricanes confirmed an unchanged 16-man squad to play the Adelaide Strikers at Blundstone Arena on Monday.
The Strikers named a 14-man squad with four players dropping out in Harry Conway ($89k BWL), Daniel Drew ($43k BAT), Liam O’Connor ($80k BWL) and Spencer Johnson ($42k BWL).
Hurricanes: Brook, David, Ellis, Handscomb, Jewell, Kann, Lamichhane, McDermott, Meredith, Owen, Parker, Rogers, Short, Thompson, Wade (c), Wright
Strikers: Siddle (c), Agar, Fawad Ahmed, Garton, Hunt, Kelly, Rashid Khan, Nielsen, Renshaw, Scott, Short, Weatherald, Wells, Worrall
The Brisbane Heat were yet to announce their squad to take on the Melbourne Stars at the Gabba on Monday at the time of writing.
However, Heat captain Jimmy Peirson spoke about the likely selection squeeze if Michael Neser ($127k BAT/BWL) and Mitch Swepson ($159k BWL) get released from the Test squad, which may impact the likes of Liam Guthrie ($76k BWL) and Xavier Bartlett ($166k BWL).
Peirson said: “We understand they’ve got bigger fish to fry at the moment but if they’re allowed to come back to us, we’ll welcome them with open arms. Some tough decisions will need to be made.”
Adam Zampa ($124k BWL) returned for the Stars who named a 16-man squad to play the Heat, with Sam Elliott ($42k BWL) also recalled and Tom O’Connell ($62k BWL) dropping out.
Stars: Maxwell (c), Qais, Burns, Cartwright, Clarke, Couch, C-Nile, Elliott, Hinchliffe, Larkin, Nevill, Rainbird, Russell, Stoinis, Webster, Zampa
Kane Richardson ($188k BWL) dropped out of the Melbourne Renegades side to play the Perth Scorchers late due to illness.
