Essendon v GWS Giants

GWS coach Leon Cameron indicated Toby Greene (AF $605k SC $449k FWD) will slot straight back in after isolation. He said: “He is like a bull at a gate… We are looking forward to getting these lads out, as there is no doubt they will give us an enormous amount of energy midway through this week.”

Kyle Langford (AF $678k SC $468k M/F) is in the mix to return next round. Essendon coach Ben Rutten said: “We’re hopeful with Kyle that he’ll be back available for us next week. He’ll need to keep progressing with his training & get through next week. We hope he’ll become available.”

Rutten also spoke glowingly about rookie Sam Durham (AF $221k SC $102k D/M). Rutten said: “We’re really enjoying seeing everything he’s doing at the moment. He seems to have some poise & composure with the ball. He’s got a bit of toughness. He looks a really promising player for us.”

Geelong v Richmond

Joel Selwood (AF $565k SC $462k MID) was subbed off. Geelong coach Chris Scott said: “Joel got a cork and tried to go on, but the medical staff said he couldn’t keep going. The time to discuss and get detail is well and truly post-game. Not in the moment.”

Dion Prestia (AF $550k SC $400k MID) is close to returning for the Tigers. Richmond coach Damien Hardwick said: “Dion played half a scrimmage match today, so he’ll be available.”

Sydney v Fremantle

Nat Fyfe‘s (AF $606k SC $467k M/F) season is over after re-injuring his shoulder. Freo coach Justin Longmuir: “That shoulder looks like it’s the same injury he’s had this year. The likelihood is he will probably go into surgery I’d imagine now that he has had a re-injure of it, his season might be done.” The club have since confirmed that.

Michael Walters (AF $432k SC $317k M/F) went down with a hamstring injury. Longmuir said: “Sonny’s got a hamstring so we’ll get it scanned and we’re getting close to the end of the year now as well so he’s going to cut it fine to get back this year.”

Josh Treacy (AF $343k SC $243k F/R) was a late out with illness. Longmuir said: “Josh Treacy pulled out late, he got crook overnight, which threw another spanner in the works.”

Luke Ryan (AF $665k SC $539k DEF) copped a stray elbow from Lance Franklin. Longmuir said: “I think he’s just got a sore jaw. I haven’t spoken to him all the doctors about it but I saw him checking out his jaw. We’ll see how he pulls up. I don’t think there’s anything too severe there.”

Adelaide v Hawthorn

Lachlan Murphy (AF $316k SC $237k FWD) had an ankle injury and was subbed out. James Cousins (AF $586k SC $404k M/F) was also subbed out with “tightness in the hamstring”.

Melbourne v Western Bulldogs

Ed Richards (AF $413k SC $324k M/F) had a head knock and Alex Keath (AF $386k SC $358k DEF) hurt his hamstring.

Dogs coach Luke Beveridge said Josh Dunkley (AF $811k SC $628k M/F) would be available after his 14-day isolation. He said: “He’s probably training harder than his teammates so he might come in more prepared than everyone else… He’s had that week of disappointment but now he’ll be fresh again, so he’ll be fine.”

West Coast v St Kilda

The Eagles lost Liam Ryan (AF $416k SC $315k FWD) to a hamstring injury early on. West Coast coach Adam Simpson said: “Early stages it’s not terrible, but it sounds like it might just be your standard hamstring. Until we get the scans we’re just guessing.”

Tim Kelly (AF $583k SC $414k MID) spent time on the bench in the third. Simpson said: “He just got his knee checked out that he hurt a while ago. To finish off the game tells us he’ll be fine.”

Brisbane Lions v Gold Coast

Oleg Markov (AF $532k SC $382k DEF) was subbed out with a hamstring injury. Suns coach Stuart Dew said: “We missed him… I’m not sure how serious it is but generally they can be a couple of weeks but I haven’t had a chance to talk to the physio.”

Carlton v North Melbourne

Zac Williams (AF $549k SC $463k D/M*) was subbed out with a hamstring injury. Carlton coach David Teague said: “It’s a hamstring, not sure how bad yet. We’ll find out more throughout the week.”

Will Phillips (AF $299k SC $227k M/F) was subbed out with an apparent broken nose. North coach David Noble wasn’t asked about the extent of the injury.

Port Adelaide v Collingwood

Scott Pendlebury (AF $640k SC $504k M/F*) was the big concern after being subbed off at quarter-time with an ankle/leg issue.

Collingwood confirmed on Saturday morning that it is season over for the captain. The club update said: “Pendlebury will sit out the four remaining matches of the club’s AFL season. Scans today confirmed that Pendlebury suffered a hairline fracture in his lower left leg during the first quarter of Friday night’s match against Port Adelaide at Marvel Stadium.”

Taylor Adams (AF $766k SC $526k MID) was a worry after a quiet second half. Harvey said: “He was OK. He had a knock in the third quarter but he was OK. He fought on really well. He wasn’t at his absolute physically in the 2nd half.”
