Waiting in the wings: Duursma, Crouch & Witherden push for recalls, Worrell impresses

With no VFL football on the weekend the attention turns to the WAFL and SANFL. Xavier Duursma showed his class for Port Adelaide and Matt Crouch put in a trademark performance in his return from injury.

West Coast Eagles

Alex Witherden (AF $640k SC $415k DEF) was dominant in his return to the WAFL, finishing with 27 disposals and eight marks and he looms as someone who may bump one of the Eagles rooks.

Luke Foley (AF $269k SC $197k DEF) was solid in defence, collecting 16 disposals and kicking a goal. Jarrod Brander (AF $461k SC $310k) also found plenty of the ball, finishing with 29 disposals and five marks.

Fremantle

Lloyd Meek (AF $245k SC $213k RUC) could come into contention this week with the extent of Sean Darcy’s injury still unknown. Spending a chunk of time forward, Meek finished the game with 11 disposals and 22 hit-outs.

Joel Western (AF $170k SC $117k MID) kicked three goals and collected 21 disposals to be named among the best afield. Hayden Young (AF $369k SC $280k DEF) could be pushing for selection after another impressive performance, finishing with 23 disposals and six marks.

Port Adelaide

Xavier Duursma (AF $568k SC $390k MID) will be pushing for an immediate recall after injury with a dominant performance. Duursma kicked two goals and collected 27 disposals in his second game back from injury.

Jackson Mead (AF $170k SC $123k MID) was also impressive and found plenty of the ball, finishing with 27 disposals, three tackles and a goal. Dylan Williams (AF $176k SC $123k M/F) finished with nine disposals and a goal, which is unlikely to lead to a recall.

Adelaide

Matt Crouch (AF $844k SC $594k MID) made his return from injury on the weekend finishing the game with 28 disposals and eight clearances.

Ronin O’Connor (AF $193k SC $123k MID) collected 15 disposals, while Josh Worrell (AF $170k SC $123k D/F) finished with 24 touches and seven marks. Luke Pedlar (AF $256k SC $162k MID) had 14 disposals and three tackles.
