UPDATES
Shane Mumford (AF $457k SC $438k RUCK) has been ruled out this week, opening the door for Kieren Briggs (AF $255k SC $174k D/F) and Matt Flynn (AF $463k SC $422k RUCK).
GWS coach Leon Cameron said Mumford could miss a few games too. He said: “He’s not going to play this weekend. His back has really locked up. I don’t know whether he’ll play for another 2-3 weeks.”
Cameron also provided an update on Lachie Whitfield (AF $721k SC $492k D/M) who will cut it fine to be declared available for GWS’s Round 19 game against Essendon on Saturday week given the 12-day protocol, having been ruled out of Round 18.
He said: “He’s definitely turned the corner. Clearly it’s a 12-day protocol but we hope to get him back for the Bombers next week but, like anything, we’ll wait and see.”
Cameron also declared Stephen Coniglio (AF $670k SC $477k MID) will return to senior level this round too.
Jake Lloyd (AF $673k SC $509k DEF) had a late injury worry for Sydney last round but Swans Head of Physiotherapy & Medical Services Damian Raper declared he’d be OK to play this round.
He said: “We had a knock in the last quarter. We assessed his right knee on the sidelines. Fortunately it was only a contusion to the muscle. It was giving him some lateral knee pain. He was able to return to play without any issues and we expect him to be OK for this weekend.”
Raper provided an update on Chad Warner (AF $477k SC $300k M/F). He said: “Chad is coming along OK. He did some running today. He’s building up to 5-6km sessions. He’s progressing as we’d expect with this lower limb stress type injury.”
Sam Reid (AF $481k SC $455k FWD) is available again which may impact Joel Amartey (AF $364k SC $270k F/R).
Callum Coleman-Jones‘ (AF $404k SC $276k F/R) hopes of returning from Richmond took a hit, with Tigers coach Damien Hardwick bullish about his other options.
On Mabior Chol (AF $453k SC $357k F/R), who had an early knock last round, Hardwick said: “He’s alright, he reckons there was a bit of carry-on. He’ll hopefully be fine as well.”
On Toby Nankervis (AF $628k SC $468k RUCK), Hardwick said: “It might be a little more promising. Toby may be a chance but we’ll have a better understanding after today’s session.”
Lachlan Jones (AF $333k SC $243k DEF) is also in the mix for Port. The club update said: “Close to making a return from a hamstring injury suffered in the win over Gold Coast last month. The 19-year-old is training strongly and expected to be available for selection next week.”
TOMORROW
David Teague will speak to the media, while the Thursday teams will come out and the round will commence with Freo-Geelong.
