West Coast v Adelaide

Neither side used their sub. Eagles coach Adam Simpson said Shannon Hurn (AF $650k SC $476k DEF) was close to returning from a calf injury next round. He said: “I think he signed off yesterday. He should be in the mix for this week.”

Liam Ryan (AF $477k SC $369k FWD) is close to returning from a shin issue too. Simpson said: “I think he’s pretty ready to get back into it. He trained fully. He’s got to get through the week. I think he’ll be available.”

Melbourne v Carlton

David Cuningham (AF $473k SC $356k FWD) was subbed out with what Carlton coach David Teague said “looks like a serious knee injury”.

Harry McKay (AF $564k SC $454k FWD) had a shoulder worry too. Teague said: “He’s had that for a couple of weeks so hopefully it’ll continue to get better. He said it felt better going into this game than it did last week so hopefully it keeps getting better again.”

Essendon v Fremantle

Devon Smith (AF $551k SC $375k M/F) injured his hamstring and subbed off on three-quarter time. Dons coach Ben Rutten said: “Looks like a hamstring. It’ll cost him a couple of weeks. Not sure how long yet.”

Fremantle coach Justin Longmuir said Luke Ryan (AF $623k SC $540k DEF) was a chance to return from a calf injury next round. He said: “We’ll be a good chance for Luke Ryan. It’s taken a little bit longer than we would’ve thought but he had a good session yesterday.”

Tom Clurey (AF $455k SC $396k DEF) was subbed off. Port coach Ken Hinkley said: “Suspected he’s got a broken jaw but we’ll wait and see.”

Easton Wood (AF $415k SC $295k DEF) also was subbed out with a hamstring injury that Dogs coach Luke Beveridge said needs scans to determine the severity.

Richmond v GWS Giants

There were no new injuries for Richmond but looking forward Tigers coach Damien Hardwick said Shane Edwards (AF $560k SC $462k MID) wasn’t far off. Hardwick said: “Maybe, maybe Shane Edwards (back next week), but not likely.”

Hardwick also praised youngster Riley Collier-Dawkins (AF $232k SC $123k MID) when he said: “Riley Collier-Dawkins had some big moments as well. We’re really impressed with those guys & what they delivered.”

GWS lost Harry Perryman (AF $649k SC $481k MID) to a hamstring injury. GWS coach Leon Cameron said: “We’ll probably find out in the next 48 hours, hopefully it’s only minor.”

Cameron also said Nick Haynes (AF $480k SC $360k DEF) was close to returning, when he said:”We expect Haynes to get through.”

Gold Coast v Brisbane Lions

Jack Bowes (AF $701k SC $484k DEF) was subbed off for Gold Coast. Suns coach Stuart Dew said: “It appears like (a hamstring). On the surface, the 30-second summary, they’re thinking it’s a low grade hammy as opposed to a high-end cramp. Yeah (he’ll miss next week).”

Brisbane lost Ryan Lester (AF $380k SC $327k DEF) and Darcy Gardiner (AF $383k SC $297k DEF) to hamstring and shoulder injuries respectively. Lions coach Chris Fagan said: “I don’t know the extent of either yet but I wouldn’t think they’d be available next week.”

Hawthorn v North Melbourne

Changkuoth Jiath (AF $514k SC $421k DEF) copped an early hit but played on after assessment. Hawks coach Alastair Clarkson said: "He was able to return to the field so he's no worries."

Sydney v Collingwood

Isaac Heeney (AF $487k SC $354k FWD) dominated in his return from injury. Sydney coach John Longmire said: "He was really sore last week... But he needed the week off, his ankle was sore & he was banged up in a few areas. We're just hopeful that he can stay like that."

There was a late injury scare for Steele Sidebottom (AF $690k SC $495k M/F) but Pies coach Nathan Buckley cleared it up. He said: "He had a kick to the shin, which was on the top of a kick to the shin. He said to me 'it was probably a bit too much carry on'. It's just a contact injury."

St Kilda v Geelong

Rowan Marshall (AF $687k SC $533k R/F) was subbed off with a foot injury which the Saints confirmed on Saturday will rule him out for several weeks. The club update said: "Will miss at least a month of football after a decision has been made to operate on his ongoing plantar fascial issue."

Brad Crouch (AF $658k SC $421k MID) copped a heavy hit but played on after assessment. St Kilda coach Brett Ratten said: "He copped a knock to the face. Not sure if there's a little crack there. He'll get a scan as well."

Geelong benched Brandan Parfitt (AF $579k SC $421k M/F) late on with an apparent hand injury. Geelong coach Chris Scott said: "He got stood on. No concerns as far as I know but I don't know much."
