Port Adelaide v St Kilda

Brad Hill (AF $509k SC $330k MID) was subbed out for St Kilda. Saints coach Brett Ratten said: “He’s just got a bit of Achilles awareness. He’s just a bit tight. He’ll be a test next week. With Gresham snapping his, we won’t take any risks.”

Ratten also provided an update Paddy Ryder (AF $575k SC $505k RUCK) on returned to VFL footy on the weekend. “Everything going well, he will (play in Round 7),” Ratten said. “He played pretty well yesterday (in the VFL).”

Collingwood v Essendon

Essendon subbed out Aaron Francis (AF $377k SC $374k DEF) early. Bombers coach Ben Rutten said: “Not sure, he’s just sprained his ankle. It wasn’t good enough to come back on.”

Pies coach Nathan Buckley offered an update Jordan De Goey (AF $488k SC $340k FWD) who missed in Round 6 with concussion. Buckley said: “We hope (he returns in Round 7). He’s still got to pass his concussion tests. That’s not a monty but we hope so.”

Hawthorn v Adelaide

Shaun Burgoyne (AF $418k SC $360k FWD) was the major injury issue, having been subbed out for Hawthorn. Hawks coach Alastair Clarkson said: “The docs took a while to determine exactly what was wrong with his ankle so he must’ve been close to return to play. We’re hoping it’s not too significant. We’ll get that assessed during the week.”

Clarkson also spoke about Jacob Koschitzke (AF $252k SC $159k DEF) who kicked five goals. He said: “We’re finding some younger players. Koschitzke kicked five today. He played a really good game last week but didn’t kick a goal. In both games he’s competed really well.”

Adelaide also subbed out Will Hamill (AF $299k SC $232k DEF). Adelaide coach Matthew Nicks said: “I still don’t have enough information around Will’s ankle. Fingers crossed, that that won’t be major.”

Nicks also spoke about debutant Riley Thilthorpe (AF $268k SC $202k F/R) who impressed with a five-goal haul. He said: “You’re never locked in. If he performs and he gets his responsibilities done when we need him, he’s shown he can play at the level, it’s the consistency. It’s a 22-round season, there’s always fatigue. We’ll look at how we manage him.”

Fremantle v North Melbourne

Jack Ziebell (AF $735k SC $478k D/F*) dominated but finished the game on the bench after a heavy clash although coach David Noble wasn’t asked about it post-game.

Fremantle subbed out Brennan Cox (AF $321k SC $351k DEF) with a left ankle issue. Dockers coach Justin Longmuir said: “He’s rolled his ankle. It doesn’t look too serious at this point.”

Melbourne v Richmond

Dustin Martin (AF $693k SC $521k M/F) was quiet and then ruled out with concussion. Richmond coach Damien Hardwick said: “He’ll obviously miss next week which is disappointing but it’s the lay of the land at the moment and player health and well-being is the paramount of our medical staff and the AFL so we’ll abide by that and he’ll take his 12 days.

“He has had some foot issues. They’ve not been significant but it has impacted him and last week was a little bit the same. In fairness, although he’s going to miss some time, it might be the best thing for him. He’s a proud man, he’d never put up his hand and complain, but the fact of the matter is he hasn’t been his explosive self because of that. He’ll get better.”

Hardwick said Dylan Grimes (AF $382k SC $356k DEF) should be OK after an ankle worry while he wasn’t sure on how severe Kane Lambert‘s (AF $647k SC $453k MID) calf injury was after being subbed off. He also said Dion Prestia (AF $612k SC $416k MID) had had a setback and wouldn’t play next week.

Carlton v Brisbane Lions

Lachie Neale (AF $747k SC $580k MID) had an ankle issue which he played through. Lions coach Chris Fagan said: “I don’t know (how he is) as I haven’t had a chance to speak to him. He’s a pretty tough character. He’ll probably be sore tomorrow & we’ll see how he goes during the week.”

Fagan was uncertain on Jarrod Berry (AF $570k SC $455k MID) with groin soreness, while Darcy Gardner (AF $439k SC $362k DEF) was subbed out early too after a head hit.

Gold Coast v Sydney

Sydney subbed off George Hewett (AF $435k SC $306k MID) with concussion, although coach John Longmire had no real update.

Longmire did mention why Logan McDonald (AF $318k SC $251k FWD) was left out. He said: “He played a half in the twos but we deliberately only played him a half and rested him. He needed that.”

Geelong v West Coast

Jake Kolodjashnij (AF $472k SC $375k DEF) was subbed off. Geelong coach Chris Scott said: “Kolodjashnij couldn’t play on with a knee issue. I haven’t got the detail on it yet. The feedback was he couldn’t play on.”

Mark O’Connor (AF $489k SC $411k D/M*) was another who went down. Scott said: “It looks a hamstring for Mark O’Connor. Not really sure of the extent we’ll wait and see on that one.”

Jordan Clark (AF $442k SC $294k D/M) was the sub for the second game in a row, having not been used last game. Scott said: “He got to play the best part of a quarter today. He’s a great athlete. I don’t think he’s at the point where we say he hasn’t had enough game-time to be available for AFL selection.”

The Eagles lost Jeremy McGovern (AF $553k SC $458k DEF) to a groin injury early in the game and he was subbed out.

West Coast coach Adam Simpson said: “I don’t know (the severity of the injury) but it was bad enough not to come back on.” If McGovern is absent, that may impact Harry Edwards‘ (AF $170k SC $123k DEF) selection.

GWS Giants v Western Bulldogs

The Bulldogs lost Josh Dunkley (AF $813k SC $620k M/F) to a shoulder dislocation although there was no confirmation on the extent of the injury.

Tim English (AF $630k SC $499k RUCK) went off late after a heavy hit to his head. Dogs coach Luke Beveridge said: “We’ll lose Tim, definitely.

“He’ll probably have his jaw x-rayed, so fingers crossed that he hasn’t got any bone damage. We’ll lose him for at least a game and hopefully it’s not too much more.”

Lin Jong (AF $375k SC $318k M/F) was subbed out early with a hamstring injury. Beveridge said: “It’s an emotional night for him and his teammates. I think we’re going to lose him for a while.”

GWS lost Nick Haynes (AF $537k SC $407k DEF) to a hamstring injury as well, although coach Leon Cameron didn’t clarify any extent or length out.
