Tom Highmore (AF $182k SC $117k DEF) will debut for St Kilda along with ruckman Paul Hunter (AF $170k SC $102k RUCK). Highmore was pick 45 in the 2020 AFL Draft and is a 23-year-old intercepting defender.

Jacob Koschitzke (AF $170k SC $123k DEF), Tyler Brockman (AF $180k SC $117k M/F) and Connor Downie (AF $202k SC $117k MID) were all confirmed debutants for the Hawks, although the latter as the medical substitute.

UPDATES

Lachlan Jones (AF $240k SC $139k DEF) won't be playing for Port in the AFL this weekend, with assistant coach Brett Montgomery revealing on radio that he was playing SANFL on Friday night.

Miles Bergman (AF $170k SC $123k FWD) may debut with Hamish Hartlett ruled out with injury. Hartlett spoke on 5AA and said: “There’s a strong chance we’ll see Miles in amongst the backline, which is super exciting. He’s done everything right this pre-season."

West Coast coach Adam Simpson gave no guarantees that Alex Witherden (AF $654k SC $456k DEF) will play in Round 1.

Simpson said: "He's a new player, same as Zac (Langdon). They're still working into our system. They're long-term prospects for us. They might play, they might not."

Jeremy Cameron's (AF $488k SC $388k FWD) Geelong debut will have to wait due to a fresh hamstring setback.

Geelong Football General Manager Simon Lloyd said: “Jeremy has started his rehabilitation program but will not be available for at least the opening two rounds."

Sadly it was confirmed North Melbourne's Flynn Perez (AF $299k SC $193k DEF) will miss the whole season with an ACL injury.

Ben Cunnington (AF $503k SC $439k MID) won't play for North either in Round 1. North coach David Noble said: "Ben Cunnington won’t be available. He’s in the clear with concussion symptoms, but it’s more about reloading."

TOMORROW

Ken Hinkley will speak to the media in the morning, while we've got four games and the Sunday teams at 6:20pm AEDT.
