Haris Rauf leaves immediately, Zampa ‘stiff & sore’, Finch to open again

Haris Rauf has left the country in the middle of a double game round while Adam Zampa looks set to be cleared to play despite an injury scare and Aaron Finch will return to opening the batting.

The Melbourne Stars named a 16-man squad to play the Renegades in Sunday’s derby, with Haris Rauf ($176k BWL) dropping out after a Pakistan call-up, meaning he flew out on Saturday.

Speaking about the loss of Rauf, Stars captain Glenn Maxwell mentioned that Nathan Coulter-Nile ($203k BWL) is close to returning from a calf injury.

Maxwell said: “Obviously Haris is going to be a big loss… We’ve got Coults coming back from injury really soon so it’s probably good timing, if there is good timing.”

The Stars skipper also provided some reassurance on spinner Adam Zampa ($186k BWL) after he hurt his shoulder on Friday night, despite taking a five-wicket haul.

Maxwell said: “I think his right one was sore before the game and now both are sore. He’ll be stiff and sore today but I’m sure he’ll be fine.”

Stars squad: Maxwell, Cartwright, Elliott, Fletcher, Gotch, Hatcher, Hinchliffe, Khan, Larkin, Maddinson, Newman, O’Connell, Rainbird, Stanlake, Stoinis, Zampa

The Melbourne Renegades named an unchanged squad for Sunday’s derby. Rilee Rossouw ($104k BAT) remains out with a hamstring injury but the club said he “is on track to return soon.”

Aaron Finch ($68k BAT) has become a bargain and is set to return to opening the batting after coming at four last game.

Finch said: “I’ll go back and open tomorrow. That was a match-up for that game. I haven’t been in great form, we’ve been getting starts.”

One player who’s not yet in the Gades side due to Test selection is James Pattinson ($162k BWL) who has been battling a ribs issue, potentially impacting his availability once the Test series is over.

Finch said: “No idea. Honestly, no idea (if he’ll be made available). He wasn’t available for selection in the Test squad. From memory he hadn’t bowled until a couple of days ago.”

Renegades squad: Finch, Noor Ahmad, Couch, Evans, Fraser-McGurk, Harper, Harvey, Hatzoglou, Holland, Marsh, Lalor, Perry, Prestwidge, Richardson, Stepien, Sutherland, Imad Wasim, Webster
