Dawid Malan missed selection for the Hobart Hurricanes while there were a raft of changes for the Melbourne Renegades including the additions of Afghan pair Mohammad Nabi and Noor Ahmad.
SQUAD NEWS
The Renegades confirmed their squad for Saturday’s clash with the Hurricanes, with Mohammad Nabi ($191k BAT/BWL), Noor Ahmad ($62k BWL) and Will Sutherland ($79k BAT/BWL) included, while Aaron Finch ($166k BAT) has been rested and Benny Howell ($125k BAT/BWL) is unavailable as their fourth international.
Peter Hatzoglou ($67k BWL) retains his spot as the Gades explained in a statement: “Was a Local Replacement Player for Sutherland, but remains eligible for selection as he is now a Local Replacement Player for James Pattinson who is in the Australian Test squad.”
Renegades stand-in captain Shaun Marsh said that a youngster, such as Mackenzie Harvey ($62k BAT), would replace Finch in the XI.
Marsh hinted that Jake Fraser-McGurk ($42k BAT) could open the batting, when he said: “Possibly, we’ve thought about that. We haven’t finalised anything yet. With Finchy not being there, someone has to do it. He’s an option.”
Renegades squad: Marsh, Couch, Evans, Fraser-McGurk, Harper, Harvey, Hatzoglou, Holland, Lalor, Nabi, Noor, Perry, Prestwidge, Richardson, Rossouw, Sutherland, Webster
West Indian import Keemo Paul ($125k BAT/BWL) and Mitch Owen ($42k BAT/BWL) were added to a large Hurricanes squad.
Dawid Malan ($175k BWL) wasn’t named in the Hobart after his quarantine requirements changed slightly, meaning he’ll only leave Perth on Saturday and be available for their next game on December 27.
Hurricanes squad: Boland, Botha, David, Ellis, Faulkner, Handscomb, Ingram, Jacks, McDermott, Meredith, Moody, Owen, Parker, Paul, Short, Wakim, Winter, Wright
UPDATES
Jason Holder ($175k BAT/BWL) has touched down in Australia and is set to play in the Sydney Sixers’ Round 3 game against the Strikers on Sunday, yet he’s not clear on his role yet.
Holder said: “I’m not quite sure yet. More often than not they’re flexible with their plans & bowling strategies. I’m willing and able to do anything. Whatever is required I’ll try & do.”
