R13 Rolling Injury Report: Gawn locked, Cameron OK, Xerri shoulder issue

Stay up to date throughout the round with our rolling injury report from the coaches post-game. With the fixtures coming thick, fast and ad-hoc, more than ever, these snippets of info will be key.

Collingwood v North Melbourne
Well-owned big man Darcy Cameron (AF $381k SC $286k RUCK/FWD) suffered a heavy fall on his backside/hip. Collingwood coach Nathan Buckley: “Cameron obviously had the wind knocked out of him but he finished the game OK.”

Pies coach Nathan Buckley said Brody Mihocek (AF $434k SC $353k FWD) “should be right” to play their next game after concussion.

Collingwood had already confirmed that Steele Sidebottom (AF $769k SC $525k MID/FWD) would return to Melbourne after this game to be with his partner for the birth of their first child ruling him out indefinitely.

North Melbourne’s Tristan Xerri (AF $212k SC $188k RUCK/FWD) and Jack Mahony (AF $312k SC $244k MID/FWD) both hurt their shoulders during the game but played it out.

Roos coach Rhyce Shaw said: “Big X, he got pulled to the ground. He might’ve felt his shoulder a little bit but he came back out & we’ll assess that as we go.”

Shaw added: “Jack did a fantastic job to get back out there after half-time… Hopefully he gets up next week. We’ll certainly look after him.”

West Coast v GWS Giants
Callan Ward (AF $514k SC $448k MID) injured his finger and was ruled out for the rest of the match. GWS coach Leon Cameron: “I’m told it’s a compound fracture and he’s off to see the surgeon at 8pm tonight (Sunday). It doesn’t look good, clearly.”

Brisbane Lions v St Kilda
Daniel Rich (AF $521k SC $392k DEF) didn’t play for Brisbane despite being available after suspension, with Lions coach Chris Fagan revealing he had hamstring soreness. Fagan said: “He had a bit of hamstring soreness all week. At the captain’s run he was still a bit not sure. It’s better to take the time off & get yourself completely right.”

Brisbane’s Lincoln McCarthy (AF $443k SC $352k FWD) has also been offered a one-game ban for rough conduct.

Adelaide v Geelong
Shane McAdam (AF $387k SC $286k FWD) may have suffered a hamstring injury late on. Adelaide coach Matthew Nicks said: “We don’t know yet for sure. He came off, it was a hamstring he felt.

“He had no pain going up and down the boundary line. There was about six-seven minutes to go in the last so we didn’t take any risks. We put him on ice. He’ll still go and be scanned. Our doctors will look at that and do our best to get him right in nine days’ time.”

Geelong coach Chris Scott said Joel Selwood (AF $501k SC $375k MID) would “probably return”. Scott said: “Probably (will return) but not sure. He’s just got some soreness which is a product from bashing in. We’re being a little bit careful with him.”

He also said Harry Taylor (AF $403k SC $334k DEF) “will probably be right” for next round.

Luke Dahlhaus (AF $504k SC $379k FWD) was offered a one-match sanction for a dangerous tackle.

Essendon v Richmond
Aaron Francis (AF $402k SC $340k DEF) had a hamstring issue which Bombers coach John Worsfold said they weren’t clear on the extent at this stage.

Richmond coach Damien Hardwick said his side came out of the game with a clean bill of health although Sydney Stack (AF $373k SC $282k DEF) and Jack Riewoldt (AF $432k SC $340k FWD) were sore.

Tom Lynch (AF $396k SC $363k FWD) has been referred straight to the Tribunal for a striking charge, but was cleared.

Fremantle v Sydney
No new injury concerns.

Port Adelaide v Hawthorn
Port coach Ken Hinkley said they got through unscathed and he expected two or three players to be available next round.

Sam Powell-Pepper (AF $529k SC $351k MID/FWD) has copped a one-game ban for a dangerous tackle but Port will challenge that.

Hawks coach Alastair Clarkson said Liam Shiels (AF $647k SC $418k MID) was “fine” despite a heavy hit.

Western Bulldogs v Melbourne
The Dogs got through unscathed but Melbourne lost Tom Sparrow (AF $369k SC $281k FWD) to a broken collarbone and Nathan Jones (AF $486k SC $326k DEF/MID) was a late withdrawal with a quad injury.

Dees coach Simon Goodwin also indicated again that Max Gawn (AF $920k SC $721k RUCK) is certain to play next round.

On Sparrow, Goodwin said: “He’s got a broken collarbone. It’s disappointing for Tom. We’ll have a look at that in the next 24-48 hours. He may need surgery. If it’s that, it’ll only be 2-3 weeks he’s out of the team for.”

On Jones, Goodwin said: “He was just a little bit tight in the warm-up. We’ll have to take a look during the week.”

Gold Coast v Carlton
No new injury concerns.
