Freo offers Walters, Fyfe & Hill updates, Bennell managed, Draper in mix

Fremantle issued an update on Michael Walters, Nat Fyfe, Sam Sturt and Stephen Hill, while Harley Bennell has been managed and potential debutant Sam Draper remains in the mix.
DOCKER QUARTET
Fremantle provided an injury update late in the day with plenty of AFL Fantasy and SuperCoach relevance around four key players.
It’s important to note Freo don’t play until the last game of the round against Collingwood on Sunday.
Freo confirmed Michael Walters (AF $727k SC $550k MID/FWD) had experienced hamstring tightness which was a cramp as coach Justin Longmuir said post-game.
Dockers High Performance Manager Jason Weber said: “He cramped quite late, he came off & we kept him off as a precaution. At this stage, it’s just a watch and see to see how he recovers.”
On Nat Fyfe’s (AF $714k SC $639k MID) hamstring, Weber said: “Nat’s had a really strong training progression over the past couple of weeks. He had an excellent session this morning with the group and he’ll be available for main training on Friday.”
On Sam Sturt’s (AF $237k SC $195k FWD) ankle, Weber said: “Sam’s probably gone a little bit slower than we hoped with his ankle… He’s progressing along and we’re looking forward to seeing him in a few weeks.”
On Stephen Hill’s (AF $444k SC $266k DEF/FWD) adductor, Weber said: “Stephen’s training strongly, he looks very promising for next week (after the bye against Hawthorn in Round 11).”
TEAM NEWS
Ins: Tom McDonald, Tom Sparrow, Tom Rockliff, Jarrod Lienert
Outs: Harley Bennell (managed), Neville Jetta, Todd Marshall (injured), Riley Bonner
The omission of Harley Bennell (AF $331k SC $215k MID) was the big news from Thursday’s Melbourne-Port clash.
Dees coach Simon Goodwin said: “One of those decisions is not to play Harley Bennell. He won’t be selected – he’ll be managed this week.”
Former fave Tom Rockliff (AF $724k SC $451k MID) also got a reprieve for Port after a few weeks out of the side.
Port coach Ken Hinkley said: “Todd Marshall obviously broke his thumb so won’t play & Riley Bonner pulled up sore so will also miss. Lienert & Rockliff will come into the side.”
ROOKIE FLAG
The maiden selection of Sam Draper (AF $170k SC $123k RUCK) remains on the table at Essendon with coach John Worsfold hinting his chance isn’t far away, with the Bombers playing Brisbane on Friday.
Worsfold said: “We’ll look at playing a ruckman as another tall who’ll spend time in forward line. That’s something we’ve been considering over a number of weeks & we’ll give that some consideration again.”
Speaking about potential debutants, he added: “We like to minimise any risk when we name players and we generally won’t name players unless we think they’re ready to go.”
OTHERS
Collingwood confirmed Scott Pendlebury (AF $749k SC $536k MID) will likely miss the next 2-3 games.
Pies Football GM Geoff Walsh said: “Because of the compressed fixture he’ll probably miss 2-3 games. The scans show there was a disruption to the quad which will need 15-20 days to repair.”
Majak Daw (AF $333k SC $339k DEF) has been named for his comeback game for North Melbourne.
TOMORROW
We’ve got another game with Melbourne against Port, while teams will be named for Friday’s two games, Carlton-Hawthorn and Essendon-Brisbane Lions. David Teague will speak to the media too.
