The injury news in coming in as the clubs publish their weekly injury reports on Tuesday across the AFL.
Port Adelaide has confirmed Todd Marshall will miss Round 4 as he continues to rehabilitate an ankle sprain but Miles Bergman is expected to return.
Jordan Dawson and Rory Laird are both listed as tests to return from calf injuries. Referring also to Taylor Walker, Crows General Manager High Performance Ian McKeown said: “All three will need to complete training this week, but we expect them to be available for selection.”
Sydney superstar Isaac Heeney appears set to return from a minor hamstring injury following the bye. The Swans update said: “Isaac trained fully over the weekend in his recovery from a hamstring injury. He is expected to return to play this weekend against West Coast Eagles.”
West Coast has listed Milan Murdock is listed as only 3 weeks with his hamstring injury, which was TBC last week. Eagles High Performance Manager Phil Merriman said: “Milan’s desperate to get back out there, but we need to treat the injury with respect and not push too hard.”
Elliot Yeo will be out for only 1-2 weeks with his latest minor adductor injury. Small forward Jacob Newton has a fracture in his navicular which is expected to sideline him for the long term.
Melbourne debutant Paddy Cross will be sidelined for 4-5 weeks with a thumb injury. Dees AFL High Performance Manager Selwyn Griffith said: “Paddy had an incident involving his thumb late in the game and scans have unfortunately shown that he dislocated his thumb, which resulted in ligament tears.
“He consulted with a specialist and underwent surgery today. We’ll assess his return to play plan following wound clearance and further consultation with the surgeon.”
Gold Coast’s Matt Rowell is a test to return from a fractured finger. GC Suns Head Physiotherapist Andrew Weller said: “Matt is progressing strongly in his recovery.
“We have several training sessions ahead of Sunday’s match, we will continue to monitor his progress and make a call on his availability closer to game day,” GC SUNS Head Physiotherapist Andrew Weller said.
The Suns listed Christian Petracca as “short term” in his hamstring rehab, while Jamarra Ugle-Hagan has undergone a small operation on his knee and will be out in the “short term” too.
Fremantle has revealed Hayden Young is 1-2 weeks away from a return from a hamstring injury.
Essendon ruckman Nick Bryan will return via the VFL from a long-term ACL injury, which is a concern for Lachie Blakiston’s job security in the coming weeks.
Carlton confirmed Harry Dean has entered concussion protocols, while Adam Cerra has “continued to train fully and will be available for selection this week”.
Richmond youngster Sam Cumming is a test to return from a shoulder injury. Tigers High Performance Manager Ben Serpell said: “Sam’s been progressing quite well.
“He’s been undergoing full-contact training for the last couple of weeks now. We’ll get through one more session, and then we’ll make an assessment after that and then decide if we want him to get some game time at some level this weekend, so we can probably put him down as a test at this stage.”
