North Melbourne ruckman Tristan Xerri has been handed a three-game suspension for wiping blood on Essendon captain Andy McGrath’s face.
The AFL Tribunal handed down the ban on Monday night for serious misconduct, with chairman Jeff Gleeson calling it “disgraceful behaviour”.
Xerri will miss North’s upcoming games against Carlton, Brisbane and Richmond from Rounds 4-6.
The absence of Xerri could open the door for injury-plagued Callum Coleman-Jones to get the no.1 ruck role.
He had 35% time on ground in his first game of the season against Essendon, after a pre-season injury.
Cooper Trembath and Jack Darling have both spent time as North’s back-up ruck this season.
