Nathan Ellis and Michael Neser both have been named to return for Wednesday night’s Hobart Hurricanes-Brisbane Heat game while there were updates on Sam Curran and Marcus Stoinis.
SQUAD NEWS
Nathan Ellis has been named to return for the Hobart Hurricanes in their 14-player squad against the Brisbane Heat at Ninja Stadium on Wednesday night.
Ellis returns after being managed, with Charlie Wakim dropping out. Jake Weatherald remains absent.
On Ellis, Hobart coach Jeff Vaughan said: “They were conversations with CA and something that was flagged with us very early on. We’ve got a really condensed schedule. They’re trying to manage him. He’s got a big and important 6-9 months ahead. He’ll be right to go for the duration of the tournament now.”
The Hurricanes said: “Jake Weatherald, who has been unavailable due to the Ashes, will not feature in this match against the Heat. He is likely to return for the BBL Finals next week.”
Vaughan said: “We’re expecting him back after the Brisbane Heat game. He’s had a great summer to play in a full Ashes series. He’s had a couple of little niggles to work through.”

UPDATES
The Sydney Sixers confirmed that Sam Curran will be available for both games of their Round 9 double before flying out for England duty.
The England squad were due to meet up for their Sri Lanka series on January 18, the same day as the Sixers’ final home-and-away game, but the Club has confirmed he’ll be available for that game.
Marcus Stoinis retired hurt batting for the Melbourne Stars on Tuesday night with a thumb issue but he insisted he’s OK ahead of their next game away to the Perth Scorchers on Saturday night.
Stoinis said: “I think I’ll probably be getting the scan, but I think it’s okay. Just sort of precautionary at the end, when you’re right near the end of an innings, I think.
“Initially it feels like nothing, and then after about 10 seconds you feel something. And it’s probably just not worth the risk at that stage of the game, I guess. And to be honest, their boys were really good. Lynny [Chris Lynn] and Shorty [Matt Short] came up and said, mate, get off. You’ve got two runs to go and so get off. So right decision in the end.”
