UPDATES
The Brisbane Heat have locked in a replacement for Shaheen Afridi with the addition of Pakistani fast bowler Zaman Khan, who previously played BBL 2 years ago with the Sydney Thunder.
Zaman will be available from Round 7 when the Heat take on the Sydney Thunder. Brisbane Heat coach Johan Botha said: “He’s a genuine wicket-taker up front but he can also control an over with his variations and pace.”
The Sydney Sixers will be boosted by Sam Curran for the second game of their Round 6 double after he was Player of the Match in the ILT20 Final where he led Desert Vipers to the title. Curran batted at 4, scoring 74* from 51 and bowled 2 overs, 0-24.
Perth Scorchers fast bowler David Payne was also part of the triumphant Vipers’ side, taking 3-42 from 4 overs. He’ll likely be available for their midweek game against the Melbourne Renegades.
The Scorchers will also be bolstered by Jhye Richardson’s availability for Wednesday’s game with the Gades, after being released from the Test squad.
Perth assistant coach Beau Casson offered some updates on the injury front, revealing Ashton Agar has gone for scans.
He told 91.3 Sport FM: “He had some awareness in a calf. I think it’s pretty similar to Laurie (Evans). We’re awaiting some results later on today, he’s going to get some scans just to be sure. With an unfortunate history with some issues in that area, we want to make sure that he’s OK.”
Casson also updated on Laurie Evans’ absence with a minor hamstring strain. He said: “Sad to see Laurie not out there. He had a little bit of a hammy in the Hobart game. Hitting balls to him in the warm-ups, he just felt something.
“Just the nature of bouncing out of games back-to-back, heavy travel schedule, if you do something like that a bad injury, you’re probably out of the tournament. I wouldn’t say we’re nursing him through. He was incredibly keen to play last night. I don’t think he’s too far away, so that certainly helps our ability in the middle order.”
