UPDATES
The Hobart Hurricanes lost Tim David to a hamstring injury, forcing him to retire hurt, in their Boxing Day win over the Perth Scorchers.
Hobart put out a statement on Saturday morning that said: “The Hurricanes will continue to monitor Tim David’s fitness following his hamstring injury in Perth last night. He will be heading off for scans today, and a detailed update will be provided in due course.”
Hurricanes captain Nathan Ellis also offered an update post-game: “He’s OK. Timmy takes everything in his stride. There’s a few of us with one eye on the World Cup as well. As a mate, I’m shattered he might miss a few games for the Hurricanes but I’m hopeful we’ll do all the right things and hopefully get him right for the back-end of the tournament and beyond in Australian colours.”
Ellis also offered an update on Matthew Wade who missed the game with an undisclosed injury. Ellis said: “He pulled up a little lame after the Renegades game. It was a bit too much of an ask with a Christmas night flight with an old body. He’ll be ready to go for the next game.”
Melbourne Stars wicketkeeper Sam Harper spoke after his century, discussing his improved form and off-season focus. He said: “I was happy with how the tournament started last year but I wasn’t happy with how it ended as a batter. I felt like it was frantic, a bit chaotic. Some nights it came off, other nights it didn’t. It wasn’t consistent.
“This year I had a big focus on doing a lot of work in the winter on my T20 game. As you can see, not too many ramps or scoops, or reckless running down the wicket, I just want to stand still. I know I can hit the ball all around the ground. I feel like I put good pressure on the bowler when I’m standing still and accessing all parts of the ground.”
