The Hobart Hurricanes assistant coaches have offered an insight into the likely roles of Matthew Wade and Rehan Ahmed for the upcoming BBL campaign.
Wade is a player of interest given his $94k starting price, although his role changed at the back-end of last season, including batting at 5 in the Final. Previously, Wade had been a big-hitting opener.
Hobart bowling coach James Hopes said: “He’s another one that we can use his power wherever we want. What he does bring is he’s a left-hander in the middle order and at the back end. Something he’s done a lot and successfully for Australia.
“Last year it was a strength when he shifted down the order. There was no respite for the bowlers on the other team. I think that’s probably the role we’ll use him again.”
English leg-spinning all-rounder Rehan Ahmed is one of their three imports, with scope to anywhere in the order.
Hobart’s English batting coach Jimmy Adams said: “He’s great. He’s super confident. He had a fantastic summer.
“It was probably a surprise not to be in the Ashes group. He compliments the group we’ve got really well.
“Exciting bowler, his batting has gone up another level over the last 18 months. Makes some tricky calls for us, not just about who plays in the team, but where they bat.”
