Big-hitting left-handed batsman Nic Maddinson has signed with the Sydney Thunder for BBL|15.
Maddinson shared his inspiring story last month after being diagnosed with cancer earlier this year, showing remarkable resilience to overcome the challenge and continue his career.
An untimely hand injury dashed his chance of featuring in BBL|14, but the Australian Test and T20I representative has recommitted to the lime green for the upcoming season — keeping hopes alive for his long-awaited club debut.
Maddinson’s signing fills out the Thunder’s 18-player squad, with English import Reece Topley added as an international replacement player too.
Since his debut in BBL|01, Maddinson has scored over 2000 runs in 111 BBL appearances for three clubs, with one title under his belt.
“I’m really happy to be staying with Thunder,” said Maddinson.
“There’s been a few setbacks for myself lately, but I’ve had amazing support from my friends, family and the club. Now I’m just keen to lock in, get the season started and hopefully help the boys go one better than last year.”
Sydney Thunder General Manager Trent Copeland said Maddinson’s decision to re-sign shows his determination to contribute and make his mark in Thunder colours.
“We are pleased to have Maddo re-sign with us at Sydney Thunder,” said Copeland.
“I know how eager he was to play in front of the Thunder Nation before his injury, and I know that eagerness has doubled since then.
“We’re backing Maddo to make a real impact this season, both at the crease and through his leadership around the team.”
