Draft Insights
Strikers coach Tim Paine said Hasan Ali will improve their death bowling, along with Luke Wood who’ll also get the ball swinging up front. Jamie Overton is a known commodity who adds plenty with both bat and ball. Looks to be fully available too, having turned his back on England red-ball cricket.

Adelaide Strikers Round 1 XI
Mackenzie Harvey and Jason Sangha are the new additions to the batting line-up and we’ve selected them at 2 and 4 based on their state roles for SA. D’Arcy Short and Ollie Pope didn’t fire last season, so those two effectively replace them in the top 4, along with Jake Weatherald who has left for Hobart.
Travis Head and the yet-to-be-signed Alex Carey won’t be available until mid-January once the Ashes is over. Skipper Matthew Short will lead from the top. Chris Lynn is good to go despite an injury scare while playing in the Nepal Premier League.
The sweepologist Alex Ross and English all-rounder Jamie Overton firm up an excellent middle order. We’d love to have emerging all-rounder Liam Scott in the side, but they need a keeper and that’s still Harry Nielsen.
Hasan Ali and Luke Wood have been brought in for a purpose, to fix Adelaide’s death bowling issues, with Brendan Doggett moving on and Liam Haskett and James Bazley not re-signed. Cameron Boyce will likely come into the XI on a conditions basis, while Jordan Buckingham wouldn’t be far off. Lloyd Pope is their preferred spinner.
