Perth Scorchers captain Ashton Turner has indicated emerging quick Mahli Beardman will get plenty of opportunities in BBL|15.
Beardman impressed in 2 games in BBL|14 and has backed that up domestically this season, with 7 wickets in 3 One-Day Games for WA.
The Scorchers’ attack is set to be vastly different to last season, with Jason Behrendorff and Andrew Tye off to the Renegades and Lance Morris out injured, opening the door for more opportunities for 20-year-old speedster Beardman.
When asked about which young talent to watch out for this season, Turner replied: “Those with their finger on the pulse know that Mahli Beardman is going to be a really exciting proposition.
“We’ve seen Cooper Connolly for a couple of years now. They’re two young guys who are already match winners.
“They’ll become better and better with more match experience which they’re going to get this season.”
Turner also talked up the prospect of Mitch Marsh opening alongside Finn Allen at the top of the order.
“We know how good a player he is. He’s in the twilight of his career and he’s playing the best cricket he’s played, particularly in white ball cricket,” Turner said.
“I don’t think anyone would be surprised if he’s Player of the Tournament. The value he can add at the top of our batting order, there’s not many people who possess the power that he does.
It’s a tantalizing proposition with Finn Allen coming out to open with him.
“We’re going to have a lot of firepower in our batting. That’s the way the modern game is going which is a change from the recipe that’s been successful for us in years gone by.”
