Sydney Thunder fast bowler Wes Agar continued his excellent form since returning from injury last week, with a five-wicket haul for Kensington in SA Premier Cricket on Saturday.
Agar is likely in a battle with Nathan McAndrew for a spot in the Thunder’s Round 1 and has pressed his chances with 9 wickets in his past 2 games.
Last week he returned from a hamstring injury with 4-55 from 10 overs for Kensington, before adding 5-48 from 10 on Saturday.
Strikers middle-order bat Alex Ross made 58 from 40 for Kensington in the same game.
Elsewhere in SA, Strikers back-up batsman Thomas Kelly scored an impressive 102 from 76 balls for Sturt. Thunder spinner Tom Andrews took 1-45 from 10 and made 21* from 30 for Port Adelaide.
In Tasmania, Hurricanes captain Nathan Ellis was in action for Lindisfarne in Thursday’s T20s but didn’t bowl, while he made 21 from 15 with the bat.
Ellis hasn’t played since a Tasmania one-day game in mid-November although there’s no apparent issue preventing him from bowling.
Back-up Canes quick Iain Carlisle took 1-39 from 4 overs for North Hobart, while Thunder all-rounder Aiden O’Connor impressed with 3-44 and 24* from 26 for Greater Northern Raiders.
In Victoria, Stars opener Tom Rogers struggled for Ringwood in their back-to-back T20s on Saturday with scores of 10 from 8 and 1 from 4.
Stars all-rounder Jono Merlo was out for a golden duck and 6 from 6 for Melbourne, taking 1-30 from 4 overs in the latter game, with rain affecting morning games.
In NSW, Sixers left-armer Ben Dwarshuis turned out for Sutherland but went wicket-less, with 0-46 from 9 overs, while making only 3 from 7 balls.
Thunder batsman Ollie Davies was the standout with a barnstorming 83 from 40 balls, with 7 fours and 6 sixes for Manly-Warringah. He also took 1-51 from 7 overs.
Sixers top-order contender Daniel Hughes was out for 10 off 8 and Thunder-bound Nic Maddinson got a golden duck for Eastern Suburbs. Thunder depth bat Blake Nikitaras made 32 from 35 for St George.
In Queensland, Heat bat Max Bryant scorched 89 from 73 for Valley, while there was nothing of note in WA with most BBL-contracted players in action at List A level.
