The availability of Hobart Hurricanes draftee Rehan Ahmed is in doubt for the BBL|15 campaign after his England Lions tour of Australia was cut short due to injury.
The Hurricanes spin-bowling all-rounder suffered a right lower leg strain during the Lions’ warm-up game against England in Perth.
He made 16 from 41 balls with the bat in the first innings on day one, but didn’t bowl in the game, nor bat in the second innings.
The ECB update said: “Rehan Ahmed has been ruled out of the remainder of the England Lions tour of Australia due to a right lower leg strain. Ahmed will fly back to the UK today to begin his recovery.”
Ahmed’s departure back to his homeland comes with the Lions due to play a four-day game against a Cricket Australia XI in Perth starting Friday.
The Lions were also due to play the Prime Minister’s XI in a two-day game in Canberra on November 29-30, before facing Australia A in an unofficial Test match in Brisbane from December 5.
Ahmed was set to remain in Australia after that to join the Hurricanes for BBL|15, with their first game on December 16. It remains to be seen if that still occurs.
