Brisbane Heat speedster Spencer Johnson has provided an update on his injury timeline with doubts persisting about his availability for BBL|15.
Johnson has been sidelined since the IPL in April due to a back stress fracture injury.
The left-armer initially thought hoped for a quicker return and was selected in Australia’s T20 squad in July against the West Indies, only to be forced to withdraw.
The pain in Johnson’s back only got worse, leading to the Heat quick to undergo another scan which revealed a major stress fracture.
It is now 12 weeks after that scan with Johnson still uncertain about playing in BBL|15, with Cricket Australia previously indicated he’ll likely be out until the new year.
“We’re about halfway through the rehab and I’ve got a scan in the next few days,” Johnson said.
“Fingers crossed it’s positive and I’m looking forward to being back in the Big Bash in some capacity.”
There’s also the lure of the T20 World Cup in Sri Lanka in February-March which will impact Johnson’s return.
He said: “At the minute it’s just making sure everything I do is getting myself ready for whenever I return – whether it’s T20 World Cup or Big Bash, I’m just making sure I’m ready to go.”
