Stay up to date throughout Round 23 with our rolling injury report from the coaches post-game. With the nine-game round extending from Thursday night through until Sunday, these snippets of info will be key.
Essendon vs St Kilda
Jayden Laverde was subbed off following a hamstring injury, while young forward Liam McMahon went off late with a worrying wrist injury.
Dons coach Brad Scott said about McMahon: “He got stomped on. We were concerned about his wrist but it’s not his wrist, it’s his hand… we’ll send him off (for scans). It looks OK but there’s a bit of swelling there. We hold our breath a bit.”
Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera had a late concern after copping Jye Menzie’s shoulder to head, leaving him on the floor for about a minute on the closing stages. On the incident, St Kilda coach Ross Lyon said: “Yeah, it was that 50-50 ball. But he did an (TV) interview, so I think there’s no SCAT test.”
Fremantle vs Brisbane Lions
Jarrod Berry went off in the fourth term with an apparent shoulder dislocation. Lions coach Chris Fagan said: “It didn’t look good, but sometimes they can find a way to strap them up and get them through the season and have an operation at the end of the year.
“I’m not 100 per cent sure on that, but it’s not ideal. He’s been one of our better players this year and a very reliable leader, so fingers crossed for him. He’s OK. I had a quick chat to him, so we’ll just see how it all pans out in the next few days.”
Freo coach Justin Longmuir said Hayden Young (groin) was “a good chance for next week”.
Gold Coast Suns vs GWS Giants
Neither side picked up any injuries. GWS coach Adam Kingsley said he expected Jack Buckley (calf) and Brent Daniels (adductor) to be available for the final H&A game against St Kilda.
Carlton vs Port Adelaide
Carlton lost young gun Cooper Lord midway through the game due to concussion.
Blues coach Michael Voss hailed Sam Walsh’s return from injury. He said: “Walshy we’ve missed… comes out and does what he does … he’s our transition mid, the one who gets from inside to out better than anyone.”
Port subbed out Josh Sinn after an early calf injury, while Aliir Aliir battled through a rolled ankle.
Hawthorn vs Melbourne
Neither side picked up any injuries.
Adelaide vs Collingwood
Neither side picked up any injuries. Crows coach Matthew Nicks all but put a line through the injured Matt Crouch’s season when asked post-game.
North Melbourne vs Richmond
North forward Cam Zurhaar was subbed out after having his ankle/knee twisted in a tackle. Richmond subbed out Nick Vlastuin with a likely fractured ankle. Luke Trainor was a late withdrawal with hamstring tightness.
On Vlastuin, Richmond coach Adem Yze said: “He’s had a great season and unfortunately he’s going to miss next week and can’t finish off the season with the boys.”
Sydney vs Geelong
Neither side picked up any new injuries.
Western Bulldogs vs West Coast
Lachlan McNeil was subbed out with a corked hip.
