Stay up to date throughout Round 19 with our rolling injury report from the coaches post-game. With the nine-game round extending from Thursday night through until Sunday, these snippets of info will be key.
Essendon vs GWS Giants
Neither side picked up any injuries. GWS coach Adam Kingsley said he expected Jesse Hogan, Sam Taylor and Josh Kelly to be available next week.
Brisbane Lions vs Western Bulldogs
Dayne Zorko had his foot trodden on, requiring strapping but he played out the game. Lions coach Chris Fagan said: “He did battle on. Someone stomped on his foot. Then he got a crack in the head but he kept going in typical Zorks style and made a good contribution to our victory.”
The Dogs subbed out Laitham Vandermeer in the third term after hurting his ankle in the second quarter. James O’Donnell left the field in the fourth with an ankle issue but Dogs coach Luke Beveridge was bullish he’d be fine.
Hawthorn vs Port Adelaide
Port subbed out Mani Liddy for tactical reasons. Power coach Ken Hinkley wasn’t asked post-game about Connor Rozee’s (hand) availability next week.
Hawthorn’s Finn Maginness ended up in hospital in Hobart with a lacerated kidney.
Sydney vs North Melbourne
North lost ruckman Callum Coleman-Jones to a calf injury. Kangas coach Alastair Clarkson said: “We’ll wait and see and get that scanned, I don’t know the severity of it. He was deemed unfit to be able to continue in the game, so you’d think he’d be unlikely to play (next week).”
Sydney subbed out Riley Bice for tactical reasons.
Carlton vs Melbourne
Tom De Koning hurt his shoulder in the second term and battled on with strapping. He struggled and was eventually subbed out. Carlton coach Michael Voss said: “De Koning described it as a stinger to me, so that’s what it was.”
Francis Evans copped a nasty bump from Steven May, leaving him bloodied and concussed. May has been referred to the AFL Tribunal for the action, meaning a Tuesday night hearing.
West Coast vs Richmond
Richmond lost Seth Campbell to a concussion. The Eagles had no new injury concerns.
Geelong vs St Kilda
Tom Stewart was subbed out at three-quarter time with a knee concern but Geelong coach Chris Scott played it down. He said: “He just jarred his knee. He’s had an old minor PCL injury which is why he tapes his knee, but this is unrelated to that.
“We think it’s fine. We have a low tolerance these days of keeping guys going when they can. The question shouldn’t be can they keep going, the question is should they keep going? What does it mean for next week or the week after? The strong suggestion is he’ll be okay for next week. Hopefully that’s off the back of chopping him out [of the game] a little bit earlier.”
Collingwood vs Fremantle
Collingwood started Nick Daicos off the half-back flank, shaking off Freo’s attempt at a tag. Pies coach Craig McRae said: “Nick looked really good off half-back, particularly early. with Dan Houston out we needed his ball use of half-back. It’s hard to tag in this competition nowadays.”
Freo lost Matthew Johnson to a rolled ankle and coach Justin Longmuir said he was on crutches post-game, having heard a “crunch” in the incident.
Adelaide vs Gold Coast
The Crows lost Mitch Hinge early on to a hip injury. Gold Coast subbed out Daniel Rioli early on with a calf injury. Rioli will undergo scans, while Sam Collins (calf) and Lachie Weller (cork) are expected back next week.
