Last week proved to be a successful round with notable performances from Anderson (152), Warner (126), English (122), Nankervis (128), Xerri (150), Gawn (119), and a standout score of 179 SuperCoach points from Marshall.
As we move into Round 11, several prominent players make their appearance, including one debuting for the first time in 2025.
Round 11 Vice-Captains
Marcus Bontempelli
Currently, Bontempelli holds the highest average in the game at 133.4 SuperCoach points across five matches. Excluding a score of 99 against Gold Coast—where he was on 72 at half-time—his lowest score is 128, with the majority of his performances exceeding 140. In his last four encounters against Geelong, he scored 122 (GMS), 141, 113, and 146. Locking in your VC on Thursday night could be advantageous.
Zach Merrett
Zach Merrett consistently demonstrates pride in his performance. Recent statistics indicate he attended 21 CBAs, a figure that may not have been reflected in his on-field presence. I anticipate a strong resurgence from him this weekend. His past five performances against Richmond yielded scores of 119, 162, 102, 150, and 137. Richmond is noted as an easy matchup for opposing midfielders, having allowed significant scores, including LDU (117), Baker (119), Newcombe (123), and Petracca (129). Either Merrett or Bontempelli will likely be my VC selection this week.
Toby Nankervis (POD 2% Ownership)
The matchup between Xerri and Nankervis last weekend was captivating, with the two players accumulating 19 tackles by half-time. Nankervis concluded the game with 128 SuperCoach points. His strength at the contest should overpower an aging Goldstein. Essendon ranks as the second-easiest team for opposing rucks to score against, with notable recent scores from English (122), Grundy (122), Xerri (146), and Cameron (125). Nankervis also boasts an impressive career average of 101.1 against Essendon over seven matches, making him a compelling Friday night POD VC option.
Round 11 Captains
Tristan Xerri
Collingwood presents a challenging environment for opposing rucks. Despite Xerri’s less favorable record against them, his current form cannot be ignored. He boasts a three-round average of 160.7 and a five-round average of 156.8, making him a serious consideration.
Nick Daicos
Daicos has one final opportunity to demonstrate his value in this article. While his performance has been inconsistent over the past month, he has shown flashes of brilliance, such as rapidly scoring from 19 to 49 SuperCoach points in minutes. His recent match showcased 11 disposals for just 9 points, ultimately finishing with 95. While he continues to find the footy, opposition teams are effectively neutralizing his kicking game, which has impacted his scoring potential. This week, he faces North Melbourne, the second-easiest matchup for opposing midfielders, with significant scores recorded by Taranto (111), Dunkley (139), McCluggage (120), Merrett (172), Durham (120), and Butters (162). This is a pivotal week for Daicos to bounce back.
Jordan Dawson
This marks Dawson’s first appearance in my write-up for 2025. His journey as an owner has been tumultuous, but he has recently shown a high ceiling. With a favorable matchup against West Coast, he deserves consideration. He holds a three-round average of 122, including scores of 156, 78, and 132. In their last encounter, he scored an impressive 158 SuperCoach points. While I prefer him as a VC, sometimes taking risks is necessary; with West Coast being the fourth-easiest matchup for opposing midfielders and coming off a strong score of 158 in their last meeting at this venue, he could be a viable captaincy option this week.
Max Gawn
Although his last 2 appearances against Sydney have not been fantastic he does have a 198 in his last 3 appearances. He is in a rich vein of form. Since round 4 he has had captain worthy scores and Sydney are surprisingly the 4th easiest matchup for opposing rucks. He just gives you confidence each week that he is going to perform.
